91" SkyWing ARS 300 Assembly Thread

I tried to fit nordlocks as well, but they are wider than the hole. I really am a big fan of this method as well.

Slapped the mufflers on. Copper RTV on the bolt threads and a thin coat on the muffler mating surfaces.

Some wire routing. Used the foam wire standoffs for the ignition wires. Turned out pretty nice. I don’t know if I showed this or not. There is a foam insert with holes for the fuel tubing and wires to pass through. Kinda neat! I used the rubber grommet where the ignition module is on the...

Made a little opening in the cowl for the needle access. Used a little sippy straw and taped it to the needles, trimmed to length until it almost touched the cowl. Could see through the cowl to mark it and make an oblong hole.

Throttle linkage complete. Tried using the geometry guide as best I could. I cannot bring myself to let the servo arm go to zero degrees. As I move the throttle I can tell the carb arm moves quicker as it gets to the top. So I know there is some geometry creating a mechanical throttle curve...

    110" TIMBER Assembly Thread

Ha!! Man, an electric plane no problemo! New gas engine on a heavy plane.... yeah I’m not going to take my chances. The Timber has hovered on low rates far above the trees at around half throttle. I could tell it was nose heavy and the tail was all over the place ha ha. Got better as I...

Got my throttle servo in place. Not too shabby for geometry. My servo wires are all in place. Just need to make a linkage.

Well after grinding I soon realized that my glass skills are lacking... and the opening was too narrow. So in my defeat, I did it all over again and wrapped my pvc tube in some material to make it thicker. End result was much better. I’ve probably somehow made everything worse by doing this but...

Got a couple more flights on this baby yesterday. Flew better with the tank further back, stall was less violent. Still will slowly drop a wing, slow down and then begin to spiral if you don't give the stick inputs to recover. Moving the CG back was key. I am considering adding the LE devices...

Been scratching my head which throttle servo to use PM DS305 or Savox 1267. I’ve heard mixed feelings on every brand and shoot... I’m just going to pick one and fly it. Found a servo box in my collection, modified and painted it, added some anti-vibration tape in it, and epoxied it in place...

Could be a factor for sure. Lots of tail draggers handle differently with large bush tires. The geometry changes in relation to the CG and the tail will be less responsive on the tail and will walk away from you. Maules have quite the short coupled tail and ground loop easy with a less...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

What did I do? Not enough!!! Need more shop time!!!! One plane being built, one with a vaporized bullet connector, another with CG rearrangement shinnanigins. Plus I’ve got another with a busted cowl, and one with a busted prop. Ha ha. I guess this means I’ve been flying??
