    Skywing 91" Edge 540 V2 Assembly Thread

Build complete! I wrapped up the final details last night. The plane is ready for a field engine test and then a maiden flight!! Now all I need is the weather to cooperate. All I need is the ground at the field to be firm enough for me to drive my trailer on, and temps above 40, maybe? :|...

    Skywing 91" Edge 540 V2 Assembly Thread

Almost. Got the cowl/engine/fuel system completed last night. Just need to put on the wheels, wheel pants, and tail steering rod. I left those items for last because it is easier to build that way. :) Oh yes, and I need some decent weather for a maiden.

Finished up the cowl trimming last night. That was some tedious work. Cut a little...test fit...cut a little...test fit...wash/rinse/repeat A cutout on the cheek for the ignition plug cap was only required on one side.

Thanks for that video Nick. That's exactly what I'm expecting I'll have to do as well.

Thanks for the info and the pictures @AKNick At first glance, it does not appear that I will have clearance on the spark plug caps. Once I start cutting the cowl for the mufflers, I will be able to discern more clearly.

@AKNick I did a trial fit of the cowl and it looks like the spark plug caps are going to rub on the side cheeks of the cowl. Did you have this issue with your build of the ARS 300?

I've got to say that the fuel tank installation was quite a surprise to me. After Suds pointed out where the fuel tank is designed to go, I started looking at the geometry of everything then looked closer at the canopy and found, to my surprise, that Skywing has even thought through the fuel...

Suds thanks for the reminder. It is hard to break old habits. ;) Here's some pics of the spinner installation:

Since it is snowing here in the Chicago area and everyone is staying home for health reasons, I've had time to work on my 91" Edge. Got the switch installed, the engine mounted, and the spinner gap is very nice. Just need to finish the spinner, mount the throttle servo, gas tank, plumb the...

Latest update: Wings, elevators, and rudder connected. Receiver installed. Trial fit of all control surfaces into fuselage. I really like the new approach to connecting and securing the wings and elevator. Very ingenious.

Thanks Suds. This airframe assembly really goes together quickly. Nice video clip of your plane as well...I agree that those crankshafts were quick and violent! I like it.

Thanks Nick, I've decided to do the same...put the rudder servo in the tail, using push-pull. You make a good point about the tail rudder servo being a good counter balance to the GP-76 up front.

    Skywing 91" Edge 540 V2 Assembly Thread

Ok - so step: rudder servo. Question: pull-pull or push-pull? I've always done pull-pull rudder but I'm leaning towards push-pull on this one because I'd like to try it. What are the pros and cons of each approach? Weight is typically the issue I've heard...concern about a servo in the tail and...

    Skywing 91" Edge 540 V2 Assembly Thread

@Suds I see what you mean about the rudder throw...the size of the rudder on the 91" Edge is ridiculous. I finished the elevators and started working on the landing gear and rudder.

The wings are done; elevators should go quickly as well.

Nice video Suds! That plane looks really light in the air. Which electric motor are you using for power? And what is your battery setup? And where did you get that nice weather from?! :) Send some of it over here.

Slow progress...control horns installed on both wings; servos ready to install; just got really nice servo arms from Northwest RC. Also note that the ball links provided with the kit contain two types: one suitable for the control horn, one suitable for the servo arm. Nice touch Skywing .

@AKNick in your assembly thread you described a 3d printed part for the GP-76 engine mount: https://www.giantscalenews.com/threads/91-skywing-ars-300-assembly-thread.11037/page-7#post-229715 Do you still have the 3D plan for this? If so are you willing to share it? Are you selling it as a...
