The velox is great with a 20cc. I would recommend the OS22 over the DLE20 though. I have flown my current electric velox with a DLE20 and it had PLENTY of power and balanced fine, but both rudder and elevator servos were in the tail. I simply swiched it out for electric to try it on for size, I may go back but I wouldn't go bigger.

Yeah man, trust us...Slicks are HUGE for their size. (not sure about the 59...I've not played with one) but the 71 and the 89 DWARF comparable airframes.

That's a big reason (pun intended) I always recommend the 51 for a first balsa 3d plane (if you can afford it)...it flies so much bigger then a 51 inch plane. (you hear so many people say that about different air frames...I personally have never experienced that on anything besides the 51, 70, and 89 Slicks)

I already have an electric 89 and will be getting another 89 with a DA60 in the Spring just because I love how big they are.

That being said, you'll never fully grasp it until you have a 71 next to a Velox or an 89 next to an 87.

I always tell people that AJ Slicks are like big fluffy teddy bears....while an 87 is like a cool GI Joe action figure.

Thanks quad. I did see that.

djmoose: I seen the one or two pounds, and this is why I was asking. It is so surprising to me that the Slick being 1" wider can weigh so much more.

Do you folks agree that the DLE-20 would be plenty o' power for the Velox then?

Thanks you guys! This is the exact discussion I looking for. I currently own a DLE-20 and have been looking for a future application for it, according to what you're all saying, the Velox seems like the right fit! It'll be a while, but I think that all of my reservations are now squashed. Like I stated, it was hard for me to understand that an inch on each wing could make that much difference in weight. I know what 3DHS's site stated, but these experiences are the exact thing I was hoping to find! Awesome.

i want to get a big plane sometime around/after spring but ill have to figure out different travel arrangements i.e bigger car or trailer for my truck. flying the buck 50 edge today i could see how a bigger plane would be better. i thought the Osiris felt like it flew "bigger" than the 48" edge , especially in the wind we had here today.

thats what i was figure'n. plus i think 4s vs 3s helped alil in the wind.

i love both planes. both probably made me look like a better pilot than i am, especially the Osiris, so far. Gyro did a fantastic job when he built the Osiris, but of course i wouldnt tell him that.

but of course i almost look semi-pro'ish with my TH edge :bull:

Can't take the credit for the build, but I'll take the credit for making sure it was perfect before I sent it to you :)

well it was more than perfect! very glad to have it. my buddy thought i was crazy doing slow and point rolls on the 2nd battery. simulator has more than paid for itself. do need to work on wind correction tho. but when the gusts died down they look purr'dy. hope were not busy at work this week. looks like dry weather all week *fingers crossed

Hehe awesome. Glad you got out and got those things in the air. Got batteries all charged here. Hoping to get a few flights in on the 48 edge and the 40 EPP edge tomorrow. Weather is supposed to be chilly but windless. Going to try real hard to take the afternoon off to go flying. Lol.
