Actually, it is not so much lightening the kitted structure but rather not adding so much to it. The kit builds like an AFR, very well thought out with minimal structure, it is the modeler (me) that added so much crap. When I built the Eagle there was a lot of things I had not used or did before and went way overboard with everything. For example, my typical electronic set up is the RX, plug switch, and dual batteries but for the Eagle I used a power board, a total of five switches, three massive batteries, with more redundant measures thrown in for good measure. I have since learned it don't need any of the excess or redundancy. There are six shelves built in just to accommodate all this junk. Also two 32oz Dubro "tanks" for fuel and oil, I now know I can use much smaller and a hell of a lot lighter ones. Also know now most of the items fabricated out of brass can be replaced with carbon and or aluminum, same goes for the tail wheel leaf spring. And then there is silly little stuff like the main gear covers being made of .060 plastic that can be replaced with cloth. There is still more but I'll leave it be here. Like I said I do believe I can alleviate roughly ten pounds and have a better finish.
