50cc Extra 300 SP

Okay, so I thought I'd go ahead and get a Support thread for the 50cc Extra going.



And to start, I have a question.



I'm running a DLE 55 in mine and I cannot seem to get the engine to stay tight on the firewall. I'm using the standard DLE stand-offs and needed to add another 1/2 inch ply spacer to get the spinner back plate out where it needs to be.



So what stand-offs are you guys using? Is the Ply spacer I'm using the problem? I looked at the SWB stand-offs but I'm pretty sure they are too short.

You could always get a machine shop to make you some the proper length you need. On my Cap that Im building I ended up needing more nose weight to get it to balance so I just made new spacers out of steel to add some of the weight I needed to the front.

I am also running a DLE55 with the DLE standoffs. I have ply spacers on mine as well, with no issues. Try cleaning the bolts with alcohol and use blue loctite, this method has resolved my past issues with the mount bolts coming loose.

Yep, did that.. And got longer M5 bolts as well to engage a full inch of threads into the stand-off. I went through and double checked my prop and spinner balance tonight after I flew it and it came loose again... I'm stumped!! lol

I would go back to the shorter bolts, use a split ring lock washer and the loctite. My wild guess is that the longer bolts just give a better heat sink to soften the loctite, but I'm not really sure. I'm not having any issues with all stock setup that's the same as yours. I do have the lock washers though. I'm afraid that's the best answer I have, maybe someone has another option.

The Extra was designed before the DA-60 was around.

It was designed around the DA-50 with 3" Stand offs.

If you you use plywood spacers, they need to be made from hard ply and be at least 1" in diameter, or they will compress, and therefore the engine will no longer be tight.

I also use fender washers front and back of the firewall to prevent any compression of the wood by spreading the load.

Blue locktite Flat washer and lockwasher like they said in pe past posts. I'd keep the longer screws. The lock washer will take up the slack from the wood gettong compressed and help it from loosening up.



If all that fails then you can drill out the center of the standoffs and use a long sockethead bolt all the way through with a nylock nut on the inside. I use this method on my DA60 which shakes a lot more then your DLE. I also use this on my larger engines with a ply spacer. Just make sure it is aircraft ply.

I just measured the stand-offs and I'm pretty sure the SWB stand-offs will work, and they use the bolt through method using a 1/4-20 bolt instead of an M5, which I think will be better.



IF that doesn't work, will anyone be looking for a DLE 55? cause I'll be switching to a 60 twin lol
