Welcome builders, flyers, hobby enthusiasts, and anyone interested in this beautiful 38" Slick 540 EPP Hybrid ARF RC Kit. This will be our build guide that will follow the basic steps to put this little beast of a plane together. This plane is one of our newest additions to the EPP lineup for 2015 and sports a supper light weight design. This plane unlike the larger versions uses very little balsa, but adds hard core foam (EPO) and combines this with wood and carbon fiber to attain a similarly strong and durable structure, but with extremely light weight in a smaller package. So without further ado, lets start building!

Step 1

Locate your parts and assemble the main landing gear.

Face the wheel collar set screw towards the bottom of the wheel pant. This will make adjusting the wheel collar position much easier.

Step 2

Once your wheel and wheel pant are in position, glue the EPP cover to the wheel pant using CA or rubber contact cement.

Step 3

Insert the main landing gear into the slot on the bottom of the fuselage.

Step 4

Glue on the landing gear EPP fairings, two pieces per side. You will apply glue to one side and basically sandwich the landing gear strut. CA or rubber cement will be the glue of choice.

Step 5

Remove the pre-cut EPP areas on the fuselage. You may remove all the areas as seen here or remove them as you proceed with the next build step.

Step 6

Cut the small EPP tab away from the horizontal stabilizer slot area.

Step 7

Insert the Elevator FIRST before the horizontal stabilizer.

Tip: Insert the elevator with the counter balance facing the tail of the aircraft and upside down. Once the elevator is inserted, then rotate the elevator onto the correct position.

Step 8

Insert the horizontal stabilizer into the fuselage. Center the horizontal stabilizer by sight or using a ruler.

Step 9

When the Horizontal stabilizer is centered, attach the elevator and apply Thin CA to the hinges and let the CA dry before the next step.

Step 10

Press the elevator control surface horn into the elevator and attach the top retaining clip to the top side. You may also repeat this step for the rudder surface arm at this time. Be sure to make sure the side of the rudder arm before securing. CA glue is recommended but is optional.

Step 11

Center the horizontal tail section and when you are satisfied with the position, using medium viscosity CA, apply to the outer section where the stabilizer meets the fuselage. You will apply adhesive to all four sides, top and bottom.

Step 12

Assemble the tail wheel assembly and insert into the rudder. The tail wheel hole is pre-cut in the lower area of the rudder. Apply Thin or medium CA where the metal tail wheel wire meets the foam area on the rudder.

Step 13

Fit the rudder to the vertical stabilizer and apply thin CA to the hinges.

Step 14

Insert the vertical stabilizer into the fuselage and apply thin or medium CA to the areas where the vertical stabilizer meets the fuselage. You may also use rubber cement and pre apply before inserting into the fuselage. DO NO Pre Apply if using CA! Only apply CA after rudder is in position.

Step 15

Glue the wood tail wheel guide tab to the bottom of the fuselage with medium CA. Be cautious not to get CA into the tail wheel area where it needs to rotate.

281-e1428619784711.jpg

*IMPORTANT* It is suggested at this time to install your tail section servos and run the servo wires through the fuselage to the front where your receiver will be located. If you choose to run the servo wires after the main wing is attached, it is more difficult to run the wires. This step will be your personal preference.

Step 16

Insert the main wing through the slots in the fuselage and position the main wing to the center.

291-e1428619879574.jpg

Step 17

When the main wing is centered, apply medium CA to the joint areas on the outside, inside, top and bottom areas of the main wing. Tip: You may use a small amount of rubber contact cement instead of CA. The rubber contact does not dry as strong as CA and if “may†be removable at a later time if necessary.
