So as I posted before the last week was a week through hell but even though we didn't get much accomplished 3 others have. Kim Q is building an MX2 and it build the same as the Giles. certainly not the greatest picture but here is our customer Dale's Competition Series MX fuselage completed. He is the customer who picked it up about a week ago so that is pretty impressive to see all the fuse complete. I think he is going on vacation this week so it will probably be next week before he gets to the wings which will finish framing it up.

Onto our progress: We managed late yesterday to get the bottom fuse foam sheeted and in the vacuum bag. We have a pretty large Router table that works out great for a flat surface when it comes to the sheeting of foam

This morning I pulled the Bottom out of the bag and did a little clean up

We have been keeping an eye on what things weigh and trying to take out some weight where we can. The foam was at 76 grams prior to sheeting. After sheeting and some light sanding the bottom comes in at 178 grams. So we add about 100 grams with sheeting and glue

So here is another weight savings. Some of you know we also make control horns. The base of the horn consist of two pieces of ply roughly 1" sq. Well Kevin and Dale ( one of our customers who is also doing the MX2 build played around and came up with the idea to use 2 thinner pieces of plywood. Cut a balsa plate out and sandwich the balsa between the two plywood plates. You get the same gluing area but now you go from 11 grams per control horn base to 5 grams. Weight savings of 6 grams per control horn. That's the same as we got out of coring the bottom foam and its a whole lot easier!!

using 4 servos in the wing and the 6 grams on savings on foam bottom we are up to 30 grams weight savings. One ounce = 28 grams

Tonight before we left the shop we managed to get the turtle deck and hatch foam bagged. I will take them out of the Bag in the morning and see how they turned out. Kevin also did some sheeting in the tunnel so we will get more pictures tomorrow.

My plan of action the rest of the week is to get the rudder and stabs sheeted if time allows

I'm confused, the outside surface of the sheeting is covered with packaging tape, how then do you wet the surface?

Its not totally covered, just where the sheeting is joined. We use a spray bottle and let it soak in before bending. It usually works out pretty decent. I have also edged glued. If I am using gorilla glue and going to bag I prefer using tape so if I have any imperfections in the seams the gorilla glue will expand into the voids
