I don't recall anyone suggesting 72mhz was a crime. It certainly still works today as well as it did years ago. My point was that if the OP is getting back into RC after a five year absence, they "consider" upgrading electronics first if they have the older stuff. I think this makes even more sense if they also plan on upgrading their fleet with some new GS planes.

Oh, i'll still use the 72mhz stuff. The club I'm rejoining has a beautiful field, but not a lot of fliers so there's not any problems getting the channel. I'm really looking at the new features available on the new radios, although my old Futaba Super has a lot as well. Just have to sort out what all the models offer and what I need.

Oh and we'll be adding some new toys along the way as well.

May I suggest this radio when you go to upgrade. I have the model before this which is the 8J and it is a great radio. I have not had any problems with it. Only two gripes I have with it and I knew about them before getting the radio. no sliders on the back for deploying flaps and the gimbals are not on ball bearings (though I do believe this 10J model has the ball bearing gimbals).
All in all I think it is a great radio and wont break the bank.

You may want to consider buying a new carb kit for the Walbro and rebuilding the carb on your Brison. If you buy fuel with ethanol, your old diaphragm may not appreciate it...:ugh:

Hmmm. I hadn't thought about the carb. I had been running real gas ( no ethanol) in it before I put it away, with lawn boy oil. I'll probably do a rebuild just to be safe.

How long has the motor been sitting idle? If you used good gas and good oil, which apparently you have, you may be ok if it has not been more than a couple of years.....

Got the tank pulled out tonight... Needless to say, the Tygon is way beyond its useful lifespan. Found a bit of the front hatch foam melted from gas. The sheeting seems plenty strong, and it's not any kind of structural element, so i'll just paint it with some thinned out epoxy and cross my fingers. Everything else looks good! Re-plumb the tank and we should be good to go.

I was surprised when I checked the batts that they were still up around 5.5v. So I threw a wall wart on them as a "form" charge, and they load tested pretty good yet. At least they'll work to get it ready to fly.
