I know... But still a good reason for a new plane;) taking a shot at 2500 feet away from a target at around 150ft off the deck gives a nice rush and brings almost certain destruction for pretty much whatever is in the crosshairs!

I am currently finishing a P-47 that will have the somewhat color scheme that my current squadron had back then. I say somewhat since I am not very good at covering! I just need to build more to get more effective.

i was only kidding about the crying! i grew up wanting to have a career in the USAF and the A-10 was my plane of choice since Mustangs and Thunderbolts were already retired (i'm still mad about that!). one squeeze of the trigger at tree top level into the side of a tank and I'll be happy, is that too much to ask for? i'd settle for tearing up an old toyota pickup with a 50 cal and a couple of jihadis in it.

When I flew OH-58's we did a lot of JATT exercises with A-10's. I remember with great detail my first one too. We had the doors off as it was very hot and I was in a low hover in trees. The IP I was with knew it was my first JATT. When the first A-10 called Splash (like 20 seconds out) the IP said to watch down range as the impacts are amazing to see. Then I heard the loud grinding growl, a sound I did not associate with right away. I actually looked down at my annunciator panel thinking for sure I lost a tail rotor gear box or something but all was green . I looked to the direction of the sound and there was the A-10 about my 9. I remember seeing fire out of the front but what I did not expect to see was the steady stream of brass coming down in what looked like water. It wasn't till the second aircraft made it's pass that I actually saw the impact carnage. Amazing.

I would love to go for a sof helo ride with the doors off! Some in our squadron got the ride with the little birds at an exercise. I don't think they appreciated it as much as I would have.

i'm happy somebody's doing it! when they start releasing them i'll just buy one and use it to go for a hamburger once in a while.

When I was in the Marines, my last assignment was with the anti-tank platoon. On one of the last excercises I participated in there were some A10s participating. That cannon was one bad mofo! When they let 'er rip is sounded like fabric tearing, at least at the distances we observed from. And they looked like the were standing still when they fired. Just amazing!

NOE with the doors off was the best. We flew along with Cobra's and they gave us Scouts crap because they had air-conditioning. Without the doors off you were in a green house during slow flight tactics.

Our cockpit does a very good job with heating up as well. The air conditioner does not do a good job unless we are "high" altitude. So I can empathize a little with you anyway.

One of my favorite animals. 5:99 in the 1/8th with NO power adders. 582 cubic inches with no nitrous, no turbo, no supercharger. On a street tire.
