I like 'em "BIG"!
After finishing up the PAU 300, I was intending on taking a little break and relax a bit. But after taking the little brothers to the field the other day I realized how cool it would have been to have Big Brother in the picture with them. Then a proposition came abounding my way and decided maybe I would go a head and get started on the Edge sooner than planned. I really would like to get it done in the next few months due to flying weather approaching in the next month or so. It would be really great to have the big boy out and flying by the time the weather turns off really nice.

So, this will be kind of a "freshen up/minor alteration and covering" project. To start with, my plans are to start with the main wings. I kind of have an idea of what I want to do with them. I am not going to change them or the stabs much. Just want to get rid of the checker board on them. I will recover them with the same red as what is already existent on the plane.

The stabs will get the same treatment as the main wings. Removing the checker board and replacing it with matching red covering.

The fuse on the other hand will get the most attention. There is a lot of clean up around and on the engine box that I want to do. I will be removing the old "baffles" and upon installing the new 275, I will build a like design similar to what I put on the 260. It should prove to be very efficient. I will also be removing the un-needed extra wood inside the fuse, as I do my setups pretty much all the same way. So far they have worked pretty well and see no sense in changing it now. I will be running a Smart-Fly board along with more than likely a JR RG1131B rx., Fromeco 7.4 volt 7800mah twins for receiver power, and a Fromeco 7.4 5200 for ignition. I am seriously wanting to go with Savox servos on this one. Will see how that pans out. There are a couple of holes from the previous owner where he had switches installed. Along with some repair patches so the "Edge 540" decal will be pealed from both sides and stored on decal backing paper until I am ready to re-apply them. The white covering will come off, holes will be repaired and new covering will be applied. The back of the turtle deck, fin and rudder will be losing the checkers also. (I will try to take a short video of removing covering) Again, matching red covering to replace it. The rudder servo bays will need a little attention also.
The bottom of the fuse has "cooling" holes in it so the blue covering will probably come completely off, vents such as I made for the 260 will be implemented and new blue covering layed down.

The wheel pants are in need of some minor repair work and the Dubro 6" tires are out, and Airman Aluminum 6" are in. They will go nicely with the White Rose tail wheel assembly.

Once overall freshen up is done, I will be ordering some cool graphics for the Edge. In my mind, It looks great. On the plane though may be a different story altogether. LOL

This more than likely won't be a fast paced project, but I hope it will come out as I am wanting it to.

So here are a few "before" photos. I will post more as I go along.

Stangflyer,

I'm sub'd for this one too. I'd be curious to see how you remove a sticker from the covering. Every time I've tried to do it, I've always managed to either destroy the sticker, tear the covering, or both.........:confused??:

Your definition of slow, must be different from mine. I've had an Aeroworks Extra sitting in the box for the last year. Bad thing is the fact the ARF is a replacement for the one I tried to turn back into a balsa tree after a failure in the communication link between my brain and my fingers so I cannot even offer the excuse of not having everything I need to finish it.........

I've heard some really good things about the Savox. The one and only one I owned was sold with my Slick and I loved it. A friend of mine uses them in all his setups and loves them as well. I thought I would give them a try. A lot of the decision is going to depend on price verses torque compared with other manufacturers, voltage requirements and of course fit in already sized servo bays.
Any chance you could put wings on and get a "before" pic?

What motor?
Two photos from previous owner, and one of me the day I purchased it. Motor will no doubt be a 3W 275
