3D Big Ailerons

Spats

100cc
Ok maybe not the biggest thing and for the record I have done enough builds to not consider the assembly of an ARF as a build but this is a new custom design so I felt it warranted one.

Pilot RC custom thin wing GIANT aileron old school 3D plane. High energy need not apply. LOL Just kidding.

I worked with Tony at Pilot for a while now and finally I have it in my hands. I had 4 built. Two are here with me and I sent two to Tavis Newman (buttface, thedrunk, ZDZman)

The wings are almost 11/2" thinner than the standard Extra. The ailerons are 10" wide!
The wings have custom in stalled carbon fiber spares. The wings are a bit heavier than stock but very strong. I will get a weight on them soon.

Tony did away with split cowls but I had him build a split one for us. I have split my share of cowls but I figured I would cut that step out for me. If you look at the fuse you will see the extra long exhaust tunnel. Ready to fit pipes such as Pro Flows long smooth pipes or just cans if you have noise issues to deal with.

I probably have built over 50 Pilot planes but I am really excited to see how this one fly's.

Just received the 180 from Joe at ZDZ USA. What a beautiful looking engine. Joe has been extremely helpful with all my questions an I will post more on that when I get to the engine run and install.

I made a templet and cut the firewall for the carburetor. I won’t be using cans or pipes on this plane but I still fuel proofed the tunnel and cut some small vents in the bottom to allow air to escape from the cowl and mounted the gear. Notice the extra wood support for the straps to hold the fuel tank and batteries in the tunnel. With the firewall ready and the wood scuffed up I glued it in place leaving it to dry overnight.

Next was the rudder and tailwheel. Pilot uses a removable rudder type install. I customize it just a bit as I won’t be removing it. I bend the wire on the bottom and use the tail wheel to pinch it down.

Took the masking tape off the spats. I tried to paint a resemblance of the fuselage.

Now that some of the tedious work is complete I am going to work on the giant ailerons. Can’t wait to rock these!
