Yup, you read correctly, the first two prototypes of the Viper-ST have landed!!!
As you know PAU supplies some extremely scale and excellent flying airplanes, as their motto says "We put the Scale back into Aerobatics and 3D". Having owned nearly all of their planes at one time or another, I can attest to the capability and quality of his products.
So now you are saying to yourself, "what the heck is a Viper then, that's not scale?" Let me start by saying that there is no denying that 3D, and XA (high energy extreme 3D) are here to stay and growing fast!! As many of you have seen in the past two years I've been working on a scratch build plane that is good for both 3D and precision, and I chose to call it a Viper to make it separate from anything else. When we put more power under the hood changed the surfaces because more is better right? And subsequently we changed it to Viper-ST. The ST stands for "sick and twisted". The viper is loosely based on the MXS airplane with it's long sleek lines of the fuse, fairly tall tail section, large authoritative rudder, etc.
I have to give a HUGE thanks to the PAU team for the honor of taking on this project!!! Herve was following my designs and decided that PAU could use a plane that is a direct departure from what they normally are about. I am so excited that he chose this design to answer the demands of the 3D and XA crowd! However, don't rule out precision with this bird!! Remember it's dual purpose! From the beginning the idea was to design a plane that could 3D and be rock steady for both experts and beginners. It is also designed with the ability to draw clean lines in mind as well.
As you will see in the build we have successfully merged modern scratch building with PAU's proven structural integrity to make this plane a fully built up ARF monster. Also have to give @Ken-H with PAU a huge shout out for this bad-ass scheme!! The lines flow nicely and the colors look super in the sun!! However keep in mind that this is a prototype and the purpose is to prove the design before production. The factory was pushed very hard to get this on a ship before their new years month off. The cowl still needs some work, but I can't believe they got that close with the time they had. It looks like they nailed most of the fuse design aspects.
So, without further adieu, the Viper-ST by Performance Aircraft Unlimited!!!!!
