Had a little time to get started on another sweet Redwing RC plane!!

Started the build off by getting the main landing gear installed, along with the tail wheel

Also got the tail feathers and control horns epoxied in.

Next I mounted the motor. I'm not 100% sure what motor this is, I bought it used from a local club member that had it in one of his similar sized planes.

The stand offs where from a large collection of ones I had lying around, left overs from other builds.

Since I could not find the right length stand off bolts locally, I ordered them from www.boltdepot.com What a selection these guys have and the pricing isn't to bad either.

ESC is a Castle Creations ICE 100 amp.

I used a ball link instead of the included aluminum pivot shaft for the tail wheel steering.

Rudder and elevator servos installed.

I'm using my favorite brand of servos, ACE RC DS1313's on the ailerons and elevators and a DS1015 on the rudder.

nice job so far, cant wait to see it fully built with your awesome vinyl on it.

Curious, do you know what kv the motor is, and how much it weighs? figure it'll be kinda hard to chose cell count and prop without that info ;)

Looking good Dennis...that is the special color scheme right? I like the bright green. Tell me now about the ace servos, those, speed, voltage, and why you like them so much?

Found out a little info on the motor:

Weight: 22.7 ounces

Voltage: 18 - 42 volts

Watts: max 2400 watts

KV: 270

As of right now, I'm thinking 18x6 wide 3D prop, two 6s 4000mah lipos in parallel. Haven't done any calculations yet. Wish I had motor calc!!

Any input is welcome, this is my first bigger electric plane.

My input would be that you're not planning for the right prop / cell count combo. Electric props work different than gas, and you really want about pitch to equal about 1/2" diameter.

Also, your kv wind is DEFINITELY more suited to a 8 cell setup with a 19x10 or 20x8 prop.

Unfortunately, your kv wind is way too low for 6s.

Yeah, that is the scheme designed by someone in a contest. I make the tear graphics for it.

I like them because: I tried these servos years ago and they have never failed me. kinda one of those things, If it works....don't change it.

They were distributed by Thunder Tiger, until they sold out, now Tower carries them under the ACE brand and they also market them under Team Associated....same sevo different label.

The DS1313 specs:

Weight: 2.33 oz (66g)
Speed: 0.16 sec @ 4.8V
0.13 sec @ 6.0V
Torque: 133 oz-in @ 4.8V
174 oz-in @ 6.0V

DS 1015 specs:

Weight: 2.32oz (66g)
Torque: 201.4 oz-in (14.5 kg-cm) @6V
Transit Time: 0.108 sec/60°
Voltage Range: 4.8 - 6V

They are slightly larger than a normal plastic cased servo due to the cooling fins, but a quick zip around the servo hole with a dremel will take care of that.

Sounds good I hope he can help.

Wishful thinking....I was hoping I could use some of my heli packs in this plane, that way I wouldn't have to buy more!! LOL
