Seriously?? I know who I'm voting out next time around...

Pretty ridiculous and totally unneeded. It doesn't seem to specifly whether or not kids are there, for example, what would be the harm in flying during summer on a school field if the schools are closed? This bill probably isn't going anywhere, most likely just one of those "show bills" that says look at me I'm doing something about the evil drones. I think the bills sponsor would have to show some evidence that there has been problems with RC aircraft over school grounds, before creating a whole new law.

Holy cow! What the heck is wrong with our world today? Don't do this don't do that....:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

I know many of us have fought for our freedom... but where is it if i can't fly a tiny little electric plane at a park or a school field that's empty!

Take a look at the examples given in the first paragraph of this bill.... What a joke!

"Existing law makes it a crime to possess a firearm within 1,000 feet of a public or private school providing instruction in kindergarten or grades 1 to 12, inclusive. Existing law also makes it a crime to possess specified knives or blades on the grounds of a public or private school providing instruction in kindergarten or grades 1 to 12, inclusive.
This bill would make it an infraction to operate an unmanned aircraft system on or above the grounds of a public school providing instruction in kindergarten or grades 1 to 12, inclusive. This bill would provide for a fine of no more than $150 for the first violation of its provisions, and a fine of no more than $500 for each subsequent violation. "

Comparing firearms and knives to a quad or a foamy airplane..... geesch!

Being an actual school teacher, yes guns and knives are bad and should be feared on school grounds... There hasn't been a day in my entire career I have feared an RC aircraft might fly over. Like I said in my earlier post you can propose any law you want, it doesn't mean it will ever see the light of day, there has got to be a good reason for it, SHOW ME THE EVIDENCE that quads or RC planes are a problem. 6 years ago we had a Navy F-18 fall out of the sky a few hundred yards from our school. It was limping back to MCAS Miramar, maybe ban full scale planes from flying over schools while we are at it.

I think some of these idiot legislators (CA is full of them) think all our RC aircraft have been weaponized the way they portray "drones". MUST PROTECT THE SCHOOL CHILDREN!

The tool is only as bad as the mechanic that uses them ;) But that's a topic for another time and location

I'm not against guns and knives at all (I might even be an owner), but who in their right mind wants to be on a high school campus with 2000 teens that can carry guns and knives, there's an appropriate time and place for everything. We actually do have a gun on campus, it's strapped to the campus cops waist, I don't fear that one....

At least 80% of the kids I went to HS with had a knife on them. I'd say a solid 50% had a gun or bow in their rig on any given day. Guess what no one got shot or stabbed and there were plenty of fights.

This topic isn't about the discussion of carrying Armament (despite the fact that it is your undeniable right to). It's about why we would ban all flying unmanned objects in and around schools. With how vague this bill really is, it would mean that frisbees, baseballs, paper airplanes, footballs, basketballs, soccer balls, and even wadded up balls of paper being thrown across the classroom would all be banned and be a violation of the bill.

Tell me that doesn't sound absolutely ridiculous. Can you imagine recess where all you can do is sit with your feet on the ground and your hands crossed?
