For lack of a better place to put this I'll put it here since I built it to charge my helicopter.
Electrics are new to me, I was out of the hobby during the whole LiPo revolution. So, when I bought my Trex 550E I needed a way to charge 6S batteries. I talked to my friend Chris from my club, since he is someone I trust to give me advice on chargers and LiPo's. Chris suggested either a Powerlab 6 or 8 and also sent me a link to some power supplies.
I ended up buying a PowerLab 8 and a 24 volt 1000 watt power supply from Radiocontronics as a package deal. I then did a lot of shopping for a case and ended up buying a used Pelican 1600 on Ebay. The case is a little bigger than I wanted, but that's better than too small, and the price was right.
I don't know if any of you guys have seen a Pelican case, but I think I could hit it with my truck and it would laugh it off.
I mounted the power supplies to the bottom of the case with industrial Velcro and wired them to two computer power inlets that I mounted into the side of the case. I then made a shelf out of white peg board and mounted that to the case with four nice aluminum brackets that were already in the used case when I bought it. I did need to lower them from where they were. I then strapped the charger down with a Velcro strap and also put some Velcro under the feet to keep the charger from sliding. At some point I'm going to add a vent fan and I also plan on putting foam in the empty side for transporting batteries to and from the field.
I'm happy with how it turned out, and with any luck it will give me years of service.
