I've come across assembly threads on this bird, evolution 33 or VVRC40 with the VVRC being better on floats from FLYRC. You can find it on you tube with a 3cyl radial and an FG-40. The EME35 would be a good coice too... electric start anyone???
Yeah I have to put my electric starter on it the first start of the day. I have been told but haven’t tried it yet that the timing is too far advanced which gives it good power once running but hard to get to start.
I would say it's too small. The beaver is actually a heavy bird with all the added scale features, a 26cc would fly it very scale in my opinion. Personally I would put a 35-40cc engine on it for a little more up and go, especially if I was on floats (will get on step faster) or with heavy bush wheels. The takeoff STOL performance would increase. I would prefer to had start as well so I would lean on the 35. Just my 2 cents.
I guess my problem is the mounting method used by this plane. You mount the engine on the engine 'box' and then slide that into another 'box' and in so doing (due to the length of the engine -35cc- the carb is sitting way inside the fuselage. Now add a fuel tank and it ends up 1/2 way between the front and rear row of seats!
