Date: May 2-3
Place: MRCA Airfield (located just south of Ann Arbor, MI in farm country)
This was the third year for this event and the third year that I had the honor of being the primary tow pilot. The field was one large runway that has a wide open overfly area for the 180 sweep of the flight line. Being a two day event, most pilots are from the region (within a 3 hour drive).
The weather was excellent both days and we logged about 12 hours of flight time between our two tow planes. Typically a launch cycle takes 3 minutes and we carry an hour's worth of fuel. This translates to 20 launches per hour and our two day total was about 240 launches!
This may not be the biggest event, but these guys love to fly! Once we started towing, we kept going until the tank was empty! As a testament to the skill of the pilots, there were no launch mishaps.
