IMAC Extreme Flight 78" Extra

OK, this is an oldie but goodie, and it is only an ARF, so this should be an assembly thread. I have procrastinated over this plane for going on two years now but today it is out for delivery. I have most of what I need to get it together on 12S. the only part missing are the stands offs that are coming from Craig's Custom and a Castle Creations BEC Pro that I cannot seem to put my hands on.

I plan to try my hand at the Basic IMAC sequences with this plane so the setup will lean towards precision. It may, however see double duty, so stay tuned.

Motor: Motrolfly DM 4330-206
ESC: Castle Creations HV80
BEC: CC BEC Pro
Servos: Savox 1270TG
Batteries: Glacier 6S 3700 mah in series for 12S (Revo 435 Blend 4600 mah in transit)

OK, so I had the plane shipped to a commercial address to save on shipping so I had to pick it up (see photo). I got it home and opened the box, all I can say is WOW. This is my third Extreme Flight plane but again WOW! The following items are already cut out for you: Servo mounts, air exit, control horn holes, exit holes for the pull pull cables. The air exit even has an air dam to force air out the hole. There is a tube to contain the servo extensions from the tail. Not a wrinkle in the covering. Now it is time for step zero, hit every accessible joint with CA and go over the entire plane with a covering iron just to be sure. Again, WOW! I almost forgot to mention, all the hardware bags are labeled! This is going to be a great assembly!

Nice!! EF does a great job with their packaging.

Should not be any problems with the MF4330 and 12S. If you want to get a good feel for how your power system may work there is a great thread on RCG.............."Power Systems for Extreme Flight Fanatics." Tons of info on about every electric setup (and some gas) worth flying.

Thanks Capt. Roll, I converse with Aeroplayin fairly regular about the 4330. I owe him some data on the 4330-206.

Hit all the seams with a covering iron. Drilled holes for all the servo mounting screws, installed and removed screws. I used thin CA and hit every wood joint that I could reach starting at the motor box and moving back. Hit the wings, servo mounts, screw holes and the canopy. When I was done with the thin, I went back with medium and hit any joints that had gaps, carbon fiber stringers, and the anti rotation pins in the wings.

Tonight after dinner I plan put in hinges with 30 min epoxy. Fun times.

Nice! I am using this one for IMAC practice and will use it for my first IMAC contest coming up soon. Mine is powered with a VVRC 40cc twin. It is a great airframe! Will follow your progress!

Hinged the elevators and installed the control horns. While waiting for glue to dry I installed elevator and rudder servos. I make my own servo extensions, so I made up the female to the servo, installed a keeper, and left a little extra so I can get the length just right. I also learned that it is harder to run the wires through the tube one at a time.

LHS was out of 1.5" servo arms so I am waiting on those and standoffs. I never found my BEC Pro, but picked up the last one while I was there. I also found out while I was there that Vess props can no longer be bought through horizon dealers, and horizon doesn't carry XOAR PJN 21X8. Picked up a 20X10 and searching for the 21X8.

This is the first time I have worked with hinge points. I watched the assembly videos on the Extreme Flight website and learned a lot from Chris Jewitt. Like using a reamer to open the first part of the hinge pocket. To oil the hinges, I used an applicator for lubricating fishing reels. Very handy. All the hinges and control horns were sanded to make sure the glue gets a good bite.

I believe Valley View RC has the 21x8 xoar. I don't recall if they are beech or laminated. You may have to call and ask for it, as the last time I spoke with Tim he said he had a bunch ordered in but they were not on the web site.
