First Flight! Pistolera's 35% Krill Extra 330SC

HEY!..GET OUTTA MY TREE!
Bart.......thanks so much for taking time to come out and shoot this maiden with Terry & me. Pics & vids are GREAT....I'm just glad I didn't get lost ;). As most know, this project has been a looooong time getting to this point. Maybe the longest ARF build ever!

I'm happy that the CG worked out spot on on and everything went smoothly. Even though the day was cut short by the workers, I can't gripe about that. There will be plenty of flying days ahead.

Next outing I'll remember to bring smoke oil along:(. (The smoke in the pic was residual in the pipes from testing at home)

Thanks all for the compliments :adore:

Hey @Pistolera ,

That is one BEAUTIFUL Extra. It flew like it was on rails. Of course, the guy holding the sticks has allot to do with that too. . . . :yesss: Will you please refresh my memory and tell me which engine you have in the plane?

Thanks

Earle! It's been a while! I was actually thinking about your build, not but week ago, wondering if you ever flew that plane! I love all the detail work you put into it, have you had a chance to weigh the plane? Been wondering because I kinda want to get back into the hobby, I still have my 35 and 40% Comp Arf Extras that have been doing nothing but hanging in storage. I was thinking about your build because I kinda want to do some, not as much detail as yours, but some. Pisses me off, I have a DA150 that runs like a champ, but I also have a 3W 157 Competition, was freshened up by Gerhardt at 3W right before I stopped flying, it's in a box somewhere, have not found it, yet. Congrats on the maiden! Plane looks fantastic!

Thanks! Yes, I have weighed it....a whole bunch of times, as I worked to get the CG at the center of the wing tube. These planes usually come it at around 30#. I knew I was adding a bunch of weight as the customization process continued. Some of this weight was aft of the wing tube....detailed instrument panel and pilot, canopy hinges, tuned pipes, raised panel lines and a much more scale looking tailwheel by Ohio Superstar.

The rest of planned (but unknown) added weight was paint and especially 3 coats of clear. Even though at least 1 coat was sanded away during the cut-n-buff process.

Anyway....long story short, I ended up adding not only a WhiteRoseEngineering 6.3 oz tungsten prop washer, but an additional 2.25 POUNDS of brass weight right behind the motor to achieve my desired CG. Ultimately the finished dry weight (no fuel/smoke oil) came in at 39.5 pounds! So, it's a porker for sure....but happily it flies fine, CG was spot on and stalls were slow and uneventful. The DA120 has PLENTY of power.

BTW - for comparison, my 40% Carden Pro 124, with a DA200L and 3 more servos than this only weighs 41 pounds!

Holy Cow! 39.5lbs! Yeah, my 40%C-Arf was at 43lbs last time I flew it.Whats the wing span on those Krill's?
Earle, did you move? Your location says Pennsylvania, but weren't you out in West Virginia before?
