If anyone is interested, I thought I would document my Corsair build. If anyone else has built one or is building one feel free to jump in! Just a little bit of warning, I take about twice as long as the average person to build my planes so this will be a SLOW to update thread! Also contributing to the slowness is this is the most complicated model I've ever "assembled"... So it will be even slower than normal. There's a lot of building if you ask me for this plane being an ARF.

The plane came delivered by UPS, which I can't remember the last time I had a plane delivered by UPS. Thankfully they didn't smash or poke holes in anything. It comes in three boxes, the cowl in one box, fuselage and wing tips in another box and the wing center section comes in its own box.. The most impressive part out of the box was the wing center section, it's all fiberglass and is really a work of art. The inner two flaps on each side of the wing are fiberglass with the third section of flap and the ailerons being traditional built up construction.

There are a LOT of parts... A LOT! I have ordered and received everything for this plane with the exception of the receiver batteries and the actual engine itself. I will probably wait on the engine until I actually need it.. I plan on using the Evolution 77cc radial and have already bought all the accessories for this installation. This airplane has a pretty exact scale outline and has a short nose. The radial while sounding awesome will help with nose weight, I shouldn't need much if any.

I have a lot of pics and better pics that I will post as I go. I plan on using the sliding canopy, scale pilot, scale lighting, retracts, retract doors and the previously mentioned radial. The only offered option I'm not planning on doing is the bomb/tank drops.

Control will be with my JR XG 11 using an Infinity XBus receiver.

So the first thing I installed was also the first mod I made. I bought the recommended eflite LEDs for the wingtips and tail lights. The LEDs are small, maybe 1/8" or so? The wingtips have notches and lenses for the lights. The holes they drilled are huge, maybe 3/8" holes. They tell you to just mount the LED with a "dab of goop" or something like that.. I think that wouldn't look very good so I decided to make some light reflectors and LED mount. I made some small 1/32 ply plates and covered them with some spare chrome trim I had laying around. In one I cut a slot to fit the LED through. I did the same to the other wingtip. I think it looks WAY better.. I am waiting to install the clear lens covers until I'm finished with the wingtips that way they aren't accidentally damaged.

I usually try to use JR servos because I like the zero deadband and the service. I also like to run HV servos so I don't have to deal with regulators. But for this plane I couldn't find a servo that was midrange in torque and midrange in price within the JR line. So... Recently I've been using MKS servos but there again, no mid-range HV servos. I was looking for something around $60-$70 and about 250 oz/in. This is WAY overkill for this plane they only call for 130 oz/in for the control surfaces.. I ended up with Savox 1267SG servos for ailerons and elevators. I bought a 1268SG for the flaps, but I think I may change the flap setup... More on that later. I got what I think is a great deal on the Savox servos from a dealer off the FG website, $68 each! I installed a pair of 1267's in the aileron servo mounts. The manual shows using the stock JR servo arms, I went with DuBro HD arms. I also bought hex head servo arm screws. Savox uses 2.6 x 8mm if anyone needs to know in the future.

I guess a really popular servo among the GS warbird guys is the Hitec 645 MG. I like Hitec, but Hitec doesn't like me, I haven't had good luck with Hitec products so I stay away from them. The 645 from what I understand is kind of the "go-to" standard in the GS warbird world from what I've come to find out.

Ive spent a solid day tightening up and cleaning up covering. With the dark colored blue everything shows. There isn't a straight line on this plane.. Obviously.. The wingtips are all fiberglass and covering over fiberglass is difficult at best, much less completely round fiberglass. There are more areas than I would like that just have wrinkles ironed down. Tried my best but I don't think I can get them out. Thankfully it seems to mostly be on the bottom of the plane and the top looks pretty good.

I installed the aileron servos using the provided hardware except for the servo mount screws. The ailerons are the only surfaces with external linkages. It's the normal Hangar 9 control horns, pro-links and some weak looking clevises, I substituted DuBro HD clevises. The setup has zero slop and I'm pretty happy with it.

Next I moved to the right side flaps...

I forgot to mention, the Savox servos have about a 3" shorter lead coming off the servo than the JR servos apparently do. This meant it was too short to make it out of the wingtip without a 3" extension. Since I'm so much over the required servo specs I won't worry about the additional loss from the extra extension.

One thing I didn't get a picture of is they ran a fiberglass "conduit" from the wingtip light back to the servo bay area which is nice for running the lighting wires.

Flaps are obviously 3 pieces on each side, there's a torque rod which connects to the inner flap and then the middle flap has metal slides (?) I don't know what to call them that go into the inner and outer flap linking the three together. It's designed so that a single servo controls both left and right side flaps with a "Y" pushrod. Originally I bought a single Savox 1268SG for this but I think for ease of setup and adjustability I will run two separate servos one for each side. The right side flaps have the footstep molded in which I think is cool..

The manual isn't too detailed in installing the flaps. It says "some adjustment may be necessary to the holes to get proper alignment of the flaps and achieve the throw listed in the manual". .... great... I decided the best way to go would be get everything lined up, and glue the hinges in the surface side first, this way I could do each individually and line up the hinges by installing them and flexing the surface.. Then I installed the outer flap since no adjustment appeared to be necessary. After it dried and after checking and rechecking a million times, and adjusting the center flap to the left I glued it all together. Thankfully I even remembered to install the torque rod! I decided to let it dry and not touch it till morning in case there were problems I didn't want to lose sleep over it. Luckily after working it back a fourth I get lock to lock throw and it appears to operate pretty smoothly.

Next up is the left aileron, which has the holes drilled crooked from the factory... And then the left side flaps.. If they come out as good as the right side I'll be really happy..

So the weather is supposed to be decent this weekend... High of 90 both Saturday and Sunday.. My goal is to get the left aileron and flaps done by the end of the weekend.. The left aileron has the hinge holes drilled crooked so I'll need to fix 2 out of three... The interesting thing is they are crooked on both the trailing edge of the wing and the aileron itself...

One of my favorite things about a build is when you have all the parts sitting there ready to go..
