A friend that I used to fly with at another club came by the shop one day and showed me his new T-Rex 700. I went out to the old club and watched him one day and I was hooked. I haven't flown a heli since a MiniBoy back in 1985, but I've been wearing out my sim flying heli's ever since seeing his.
I just recently bought a used Align T-Rex 550E V1. After talking to the three heli guys at my field that I trust, I decided on the 550. There are others that say a 550 is too big for a beginner and I guess I'll find out if they are right, but most agree bigger flys better. This is also my first thing with big LiPo's so there a learning curve there as well.
The heli is stock except for the larger 550 blades and slant gears. I'm also using an AR7200BX FBL controller. I bought a 550 DFC PRO canopy to replace that stock one that was a little beat. I'll be running the stock one at first just in case, but I do like the look of the longer DFC PRO canopy. I'm still working on a few things so it hasn't flown yet. I'm planning on having a friend go over the setup and put the first flight on it for me.

The 550 in my opinion is the best size....simple one battery system, parts are not too too expensive, the heli is stable is a rock, and flies awesome. You will love it. I upgraded and used Savox 2272's and 2272's. Savox motor, heli option canopy mounts. The heli has been awesome.....great choice.
