Got the filter rack done. it holds two 12" x 24" furnace filters snugly in place. Hopefully it should go together pretty quickly from here on out, I don't have to design anything else and it is all cutting, fitting, and sealing.

Didn't get anything done on the table over the weekend, so I hit it hard this afternoon. I cut out the hole for the fan exhaust and installed the air deflector. Got the hopper that guides the sawdust down to the filters installed and caulked. I used clear silicone caulk on all the seams so the only air getting into the filters is from the table surface. I got the side pieces cut out and ready to install tomorrow. I figure I have about an hour of carpentry work left to do, and then the electrical wiring to install a switch and extra outlets. Here are some pictures of the progress. If anyone wants a picture of a specific piece, let me know. With any luck and if nothing comes up, it will be up and fully functional tomorrow afternoon!

I'm enjoying the irony as I build this. The 1/4" ply used everywhere on this except the bottom is old airplane crates. That's why you'll see the "fragile" and arrows on some of the pieces. I made 3 crates to move my planes from Alaska to California, numbered all the parts and disassembled/stored the crates, then used them again to move my planes to Montana 4 years later. They have been sitting against the wall in my shop for 2 years now and I don't need them for moving again since I'm retired now. Having all the lumber on hand to repurpose probably saved me $100 on the cost of building this.

Well, it's done. I missed my goal of $100 because of the electrical parts and pieces that added another $40 to the cost. So I'm still solidly under $150, not bad for what it does!

I fired it up tonight and it does what it was designed to do. I took a rag covered in sawdust and pounded it on the top, every bit of dust went down into the table and filters and there was nothing floating in the air. You don't feel much of a vacuum at the surface, but there is definitely negative pressure drawing air in.

I'll have pictures tomorrow when the lighting is better to get some shots. I still need to iron out a problem with the electrical outlets, but that should be simple. I also need to give the whole thing a coat of paint after the silicone sealant dries.

What kind of electrical problems you having. I may have an answer as I play with electricity everyday as my profession

I think the problem is with the GFI's. The wire comes in to the first GFI outlet then branches to the other outlet and the switch. Goes from the switch to a standard outlet that the blower is plugged into. The other branch goes to another GFI outlet on the other side of the table. As I think about it, I don't think I can have two GFI outlets in one circuit? The first one can be GFI, but the other ones should be standard?
