Is a DLE-61 any good?

I wouldn't buy a DA 60 again. They're too finicky and I hear of people having a lot of problems. Hell I spent 2 years trying to get mine running right and then it started dead sticking. When it ran, it was great but I spent more time wrenching on it than flying it.

Now yes I did sell it and @Bartman was interested in it but I also disclosed that it had a history. Some people can get them running right and maybe all of the problems with mine were gone. However it left a bad taste in my mouth and I wanted to move on and not risk having anymore problems.

For anyone reading this that doesn't know, the motor was sent to DA for service and a I ended up with a $200 repair bill on a motor with only 6-7 gallons through it.

As stated before, it was time to move on and get something I can learn to trust.

The DA 70 may be different but in my opinion DA might be trying to squeeze too much power from the 60. Just my $0.02 though.

Ben, what did DA do to the engine?

Replaced the carb because the old one had some kind of build up. I could've sworn they said they cleaned it but then it had a new carb and the throttle linkage also seemed different when I re-installed it on my Edge.

I'm not saying DA makes a bad engine but I did not have a good experience with the 60 and I know some other people that have them. A few run fine and a few have problems.

If I can ever get back to work on the Dalton, I'll still consider a DA (probably go with the 150L) but I have to find the time to work on it first.

I've been flying a DLE 61 for a couple of seasons now. I don't have a tremendous amount of time on it but it has always been dependable and smooth running. Not as powerful as a DA or GP but certainly very respectable. It likes the more or less standard Falcon 24-9 carbon prop very well. I'd buy another one and certainly recommend the engine to someone else. I use the stock muffler that has a nice mellow sound. The engine is smooth throughout the whole throttle range with no mid range burble. DLE uses the smaller frame Walbro WT series carb on the 61 where most of the companies use the larger HDA series. I believe the different carb makes the engine easier to tune while slightly restricting the top end HP.

I just bought my second 5 year motor.........EME 60. Go with the DLE 61..........It's a 5.1 year motor!:epic:

Seriously though.........EME, DLE, DA. Which one??? Why??? How much???

EME- Very good power, VERY Reliable, Least expensive. Great customer support. Smooth running engine.
DLE- Very good power, Very reliable, A wee bit lighter, cost 100 bucks more. Smooth running engine.
DA- Excellent power, Very reliable, shiny:), Light, cost's the most. Super customer service. No muffler included.

Now I have seen where import pricing has gone up on the EME line and the 60 is about 420 to your door through China retailers.
However.....Mike still sells them for LESS! A few good guys have had some issues with the EME 55 but nothing a new 55 would not fix :big-grin:.

Actually depending on where you get it the EME isn't much less money than the DLE61. I purchased one from Tower a while back and used a coupon code that took almost 50$off bringing it down to about $409. I then received a $40 gift certificate through email because I had made a $400 purchase which basically brought the cost down to about $470 so only about $20 difference. Not sure if the EME gets free shipping but I did so that's a few bucks as well.

Hi Wayne.........On the invoice I posted shipping was 11.95. Engine was 349.00. My first EME 60 was 260.oo with 28.00 shipping from SDS in China. SDS pricing for the EME 60 is now 402.00 and shipping is about 30.00. Since the introduction of Dong Lin Engines and Eagle Master Engines ( both mfg's doing model engine business for about a decade) DLE has increased their pricing as well as EME...... about 25%. Currently Mike is still holding true to his word beating any other pricing. BTW he also sells DLE and a host of other engines. I was a "super saver" for a long time until I decided to stop funding the retirements of that "tower" of fortune. RC goodies come our way readily now with the open trade we have today and no, one, distributor is King. Competition is a good thing.

Thanks for the info Ben.
