The EF boxes are longer than the other brands, hence where the dimensional weight comes in. Hangar 9 designs their bigger planes in multiple boxes to save on shipping weight. If EF separated the cowling it might be a little less expensive as it won't trigger the dimensional weight. We use the latest plane box as a crumple barrier in my garage for my spouse as she can't seem to figure out how to park the car without hitting the garage wall. I know about the golf ball trick, but I think she likes ramming those boxes. The EF ones last the longest and are by far the biggest.
I think Gyro has a point in the fact that their boxes could be better designed to meet UPS criteria. I have asked for both the MXS and the Laser box dimensions before the models were released and Curtis did not have them until the shipping container arrived. Again to show how outstanding Curtis is, both times he remembered to e-mail me several weeks later as soon as he himself knew.
To illustrate Aero's point, I flew my 72" 3DHS 330SC today with a 1 6s 5000 at 9.75 pounds AUW, then my 76" MXS with 2 of those same batteries at 14.6 pounds. They had about the same flight time. The EF is that much bigger. I was mainly practicing rollers and doing the same basic routine.
