After I win the lottery one of the bikes on the top of my list is the BMW R1200GSA. I've read stories about parts and service being expensive on the BMWs though.

The GS is a great bike, you will find the guys that ride them are real loyal to that bike because not until recently has there been anything even like it.

As for parts and stuff, I don't think they are really any worse then any other bikes but thankfully neither one of use have had to really find out how expensive it could be. Between my Dad, Brother in law, and I we have 4 bmw's currently and have had a total of 6 so we know what to expect from them.

I have had my bike pretty much all taken apart to do upgrades and such, they are pretty straight forward to work on. The fun thing about the R series of bike is as r/c guys we tend to understand a lot about the engines because they are an opposed twin just like a DA so a lot of the same concepts still apply.

I'm hoping to ride the Tail at the end of August

Riding the tail of the dragon is an experience but to be honest some of the roads around it are even more fun. I recommend the cherohala skyway, the moonshiners run (hwy 28, which is right at the end of the dragon), foothills parkway, and some of the best scenery is always the blue ridge.

Last time we went to the dragon a tractor trailer truck thought he would make the run through it and it did not go so well. He took out a couple of cars in front of us, thankfully we did not get caught up in it.

+1 to cherohala skyway...have ridden in under normal conditions and it was a great ride.... have also rode it in a downpour/fog which was exciting but not quite as much fun

What you didn't buy it new!! LOL

Forgot to add. I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ1000 Z1R D3 under restoration non turbo version, it only has 8K miles. Need to get new inner fork tubes, all the brake master and slaves rebuilt and a real good cleanup.

Some really nice bikes! I lived two wheels from a kid to having kids :) Roadraced for a number of yrs, won the Wera amateur National Superbike Championship in 99, Raced a few AMA Pro races and then had kids. The only two wheelers I have now have pedals! Switched to 4 wheels now and doing some off roading with my boys. Just got the new Arctic Cat Wildcat trail. If the boys show interest in dirtbikes I'm still game.

I've got a 2000 Moto Guzzi Quota 1100. Fairly rare bike as I think there were less than 200 imported to North America in 2000. I am always having too much fun while I am riding, so I don't have any ACTUAL pictures of mine, but here is a "stock" photo to give you an idea...
