Good info Xpress thanks much bud. Your spot on about the weight. This is a tricky thing finding that sweet spot between weight and the kind of speed Im looking for.
I have been talking quite a lot with Ken about an upcoming motor he's working on. He said it's ok to talk about now, so I will. I told him which airframe I am going to get
which is the 78" EF Extra 300 and I told him that I want to make it a speed demon over 3d but still be able to some 3d. When I showed him the video of his DM4330/216kv
motor pulling 3200 Watts he was not surprised, but he did want to know how it performed. That motor was basically designed to run at 2700W max, but he said they are
capable of 3200 no problem. Just not recommended unless you know you can keep the temps down. Anyway, he started telling me about a motor he's working on for just
this size of plane 78" or so. Said it will be @ 4000 watts on 12s and weigh in around 28 ounces. So he and I are going to work on getting the right prop and esc setup and
dial it in from there. May have to do a few rewinds to get it where I want, but it should be a lot of fun getting it where I want it. I have also been thinking more and more
about doing the EDF Jet thing as well. Leave the 3D planes alone to do 3D things and get a Jet to do the speed thing. I was just telling a friend that I was even considering
the Horizon Hobby Habu 32x DF as my starter plane and then move up to some nicer stuff from there. I think that would make more sense don't you guy's. Instead of trying
to force my speed fix on an aircraft that wasn't really designed for speed, just do it right and get something that is designed to go fast. Thoughts on any of this?

I agree, if you have the speed need going on then go with the speed airframe like the Habu.... crazy fast and fun! I got my speed fix with a sig wonder, .15-.20 nitro, I had the .20 on mine, rocket ship!! clocked it at over 135mph but I dont have a grass runway to land on anymore so I cant fly that as it has no landing gear but boy it delivered speed....

Well you also have to remember that 3D airplanes are also VERY draggy- they're not designed for speed, they have a lot of surface area all over the airplane which creates drag. If it's all out speed you're looking for then an EDF jet would better suite your needs.
