Hi guys! Thanks for the warm welcome 3DMIKE and dth7. Here's a little about me and what brings me here. I'm currently in Central Indiana and I've been interested in RC flying stuff for quite some time. About 10 years ago, I had an RC Airplane that I didn't do so well with. It was a trainer, so not much of a loss. Over the last 10 years, other types of flying machines have become available and the electrics have proliferated. Over a year ago, I got in on the
Robot Dragonfly Indiegogo campaign, but still have no idea if and when I will be getting anything from that.
Recently, my company recently acquired a MakerBot Replicator 2, 3D Printer for employee use. Employees have been having a great time printing out nameplates, monitor stands, and other tchotchkes, but there's been no attempts to make something that's a little bit more functional and letting people know what the capabilities of the printer really are. While out on Thingiverse, found plans for the
MikeyB's Crossfire Quadcopter. I saw a few of his videos and knew that this was something that I had to build, despite the fact that I have no current knowledge on quad-copters or the components they require. I'm here to learn more about the components that others have outfitted their DIY Quadcopters with and what sorts of equipment I will need to "get off the ground" per-se. Yesterday, I finished printing the basic parts that I would need and was ready for the electronics, with still very little idea of what I need (but learning a little more every day thru constant research). Being the prolific creator that MikeyB is, he released a
Crossfire 2 a few days ago. Many had made improvement suggestions and he incorporated many of those into the new version. Fortunately with the new version, he also released a quite nice build document with information on what components he has used...so that's giving me some direction. What's not included is information on what radio and receiver I should use, as well as battery charging equipment, etc. Yeah, I need it all. This is turning into a more expensive proposition than I thought it was going to be, but also, more fun.
So that's about it. I'm a total noob. I don't expect someone to just provide me a list and say "buy all this stuff", but being pointed in the direction of a few good threads by the guys that really know what they are doing, would be *very* helpful. Thanks again for welcoming me into your great community.
