That is a valid point. Lets all do it, but nicely. The FAA sees us as an aircraft flying in the NAS. As our hobby grows and more people do it we will have the same problem even if we were seperated now.... Again take my advice call the FAA and let their phones ring voicing your opinions in an intelligent way! Let them hear your story. They are always welcome to phone calls.
I've never said that the traditional guys had never done anything stupid. STOP using that as a counterpoint from a droners standpoint. NEVER ONCE have I seen a traditional model make the six o'clock news! Drones on the other hand, are featured nightly! BIG DIFFERENCE my friend!I am open to new technology in our industry. Its funny you mention to quad guys it's their fault they will quickly pull up a YouTube video of us traditional modelers doing something stupid.... That is why I say we need to work together on this task.
I just see both sides of the story. Actually all three sides. traditional/UAV/manned.
Absolutely Kevin, just opinions, and different ideas, that's always "AWESOME" to share, that's one way we learn. Honestly it's main reason I love this site, seems most can act like adults, with differences in opinions, without it going into my dad can kick your dad's ass drama stuff. I'm no Saint, and actually lost my cool here the other day, but found the ignore feature, and all is "GOOD"Btw this is just good discussion. I don't dislike anyone if they have a different opinion on something
I have to ask but do you think you can make out a small quad copter going that fast on approach? When I am flying in a 182 and I go by a bird I have to think twice of what I saw.... It's mostly a blur. Not saying it doesn't happen but many of the reports are not real I believe. You have never seen where a fixed wing aerobatic or scale plane almost became fod for a 747 at 2500 feet either.
I have to ask you this. DOES IT MATTER? you can try and debunk all the sightings that the FAA claimed (BTW, I tend to think that at least SOME of the reported sightings lacked credibility and the number of them was probably inflated), but what REALLY matters is that there are PLENTY of drones out there that are equipped and CAPABLE of interfering with manned flight. If they are out there and capable, you can bet it WILL happen, and IS a legitimate FAA concern. It is highly irresponsible to view it any other way (especially for a full-scale pilot).I have to ask but do you think you can make out a small quad copter going that fast on approach? And, those people that are intent on doing so.......get ready for it..............wont register with the faa or ama!!!!!!( Insert dramatic Perry Mason music here)I have to ask you this.
