I'm curious to hear what you think about the DLE 170.

Be sure to change out the plugs to NGK's!

I flew Nolasco's at my event and was super impressed. Yeah, I noticed my DLE plug was falling apart so I swapped them out for NGKs. :) The motor comes with wire safety keepers, plastic protective spiral wrap, and mufflers. Since I got back in July I've run DA and 3W... now DLE... hoping to try a ZDZ 180 next. We'll see.

I took a page from @Terryscustom 's Viper and put vents on the top of the cowl. But, I think they should intake, not exhaust. I want to force that cold air over the backs of the cylinders and out the bottom exits.

I know foam is all the rage now... but I'm pretty happy with this quick and easy simple piece of 1/8" light ply baffling.

I'm trying the Secraft SE Easy Wire Coupler and SE wire tensioner. @Tavis says 1/3 scale maximum, but they look solid to me for this 122" Extra. I was able to pop the cotter pin out by swinging the rudder into the fuse... wild... anyway, I put a cable tie on them as keepers.

I also cut the intake opening larger as per @Spats :)

Saw someone else did that, only problem is that for intake you will need to build a dam under them to point the air straight down onto the fins of the engine. Otherwise path of least resistance will show that the air going into those will cool the firewall off nicely;)

The idea behind Viper fins was #1 to look cool, #2 to pull air that's already passed through the engine fins (hot air) out via low pressure created by the lips.

Yeah, I was thinking about doing it on my last Extra because the cylinder is so close to the top of the cowl. Then I flew @JBenson 's DA-200 plane that turns out to have no baffling at all. :O It runs nice and cool with just intake air from the top of the cowl pointed down to the back of the rear cylinders. I put the intake on the top of the cowl on one side for comparison. I'll probably try a little damn in there next (won't be very long). And, then decide what I want to do for the other cylinder based on those results. Based on Benson's results it would seem an intake on the top of the cowl/exit on the bottom of the cowl works really well. :sneaky:
