Prop assistance please

Hi guys,

I'm new to the IMAC world and would appreciate some advice. I have a 36% PRC Sbach with a 3w110cs for power. It has a Falcon 28x9.5 CF propeller. I'm flying mostly basic and as skills improve will be going to sport man sequences. Does anyone have any experience with this or a similar setup? I'm not sure this prop is ideal for me since it does rip in straight and level flight. What should I be looking for?

The main thing to remember is throttle management. If it pulls good on the uplines without ripping, just back off the throttle on the straight and level flight. Not only will you not rip the prop but, you will give yourself time to mentally prepare for the next manuever

Easier said than done, that 3dub is something else. I come from the DLE world and this 3W is a world of difference.

If you wish to try a 3-blade, the Biela 26×12 works well on a piped DA120. Pulls hard and fairly quiet. That combo will rip a Biela 26x10.

I flew a 106CS on a QQ Yak with a 28x10 Falcon and it would rip the snot out of it if I would let it. The Falcon props that I have ran are all louder than the Mezjliks of equal size. I prefer the Mezjlik over the Falcon personally but, that is just personal preference. If you have a friend that has a Mezjlik of the size you are using, see if he will let you give it a shot. The other thing to take a look at is are you getting half throttle at half throttle on the radio? You may have more throttle than you think. The good news is a simple throttle curve will make the throttle more linear and easier to control. Just my 2 cents from what I have learned in the last couple of years

engel mt super silence 3-bladed 27x12... the 110 will rip the crapola out of a 29x10 mejlick. Price is steep... JC superprop wood from AI will load it more than most of the carbon props and run about 50. Ask Gerhard. The 110cs makes a bit more torque than a da120 so just a wee bit more prop than a good da120 setup would work well.

I have a PAU 36% Edge with a 3W-110CS. It's possible for me to rip both of these, especially the Falcon 27X11. A Falcon 29x9 works okay, but still loud. I'm using a Mejzlik 29X12N and KS86 cans with standard headers. I think the 27x12 is probably a great suggestion.

I can tell you "EXACTLY and PRECISELY" how to quiet that "dub" beast. SEND IT TO ME. I promise you will never hear another peep from it.

I have a friend here that has a brand new one he has been wanting me to buy from him. What rpm are you getting with the 29x9? I am surprised you find the Falcon 29x9 loud. I would be interested on your findings.

We have noise restrictions at our field (Emerald City Flyers in Snohomish WA) I measured the Falcon 29X9 on the ground several times and never exceeded 88db at 9 ft with an app (Sound meter by melon soft) on my Samsung Edge 6 and holding the phone with the microphone pointing at the engine/plane. Once airborne and the prop unloaded it's much louder. We have train tracks within 125 yds behind the flight line and gradually increasing the throttle it's very easy to hear the prop with the train passing behind us. No train, it echoes off the trees behind me.

As an FYI, I own most of the engine brands. I have a DA 170 in a 42% on RE 3's a 3W 157 on L 90 cans a DA 60 on standard muffler as well as a DA 120 and sold my both DLE 55's with the planes they were on.

I really like my 3W's, and would rather not part with any of them.

I will mount the 3W tach and see what the RPM's are and get back to you.

The 28x9.5 is pretty much a really good 3D prop. If you are wanting to cut back on some airborn noise, drop down to a 27x11 or 26x12. Larger prop diameters will prop rip so much easier than a smaller diameter.

As said before, throttle management is key. Don't fly full throttle to the next manuever. Slow your flying speed down, and give yourself time to prep for the manuever.
