After a full day of trying to cover the canopy it is almost done, just have to add the windshield part and I have decided to make it black. I may regret this but I think it will look the best. Just never had good luck with black it always wrinkles on me in the sun.. Messed up some covering trying to do it with one or 2 pieces just could not get down with out major wrinkles. So it ended up with 4 pieces.

I did a windshield in chrome once. It looked great and it reflected the sun. So that’s an option if you have any chrome covering.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes that is a good option, unfortunately I do not have any chrome covering. Hard to justify buying a roll for just a windshield.

This is a big step for me the canopy is done and looks ok. It was one of the big stumbling blocks of scratch building this plane what how do I do the canopy. Could not find anything that will fit or even close, so I decided to make my own from balsa strips and formers. Not easy to do but I do not think I will do this again. This is the first time I did black covering not easy to use, it is difficult to to see how it is laying down and gluing to the plane. I must have made 10 templates trying to see how the shape of the windshield looks on the plane. Eventually I ended up with what is showing in the picture. Also if it does start to wrinkle in the sun it can be removed if, then I will try a chrome windshield.

This is a finicky little part and just made from very light balsa. Just enough structure so that it can be covered and installed and in turn cover the landing gear. Looks better than the gear showing and 4 big bolts. Just have to finish off the bottom of the cowl with yellow and purple.

Ok I have done this multiple times but never showed it. This will most likely be the last one I need for the plane so I thought I would show and explain. To get the part to conform to the plane section I make a template as shown in the photograph. Cut up pieces of covering backing and tape it to the plane then make an outline. Cut the out line out place it on top of the covering and cut it ont and then glue it to the plane. The template shown is for the purple part of covering that goes around the bottom of the cowl.
