This will be my build log of my new Redwing Extra 330sc!

Wing area: 1145 sq inches (wings and stabs measured ONLY) More surface area when considering fuselage

All up flying weight: 11 - 12 lbs

Length: 1663mm / 65.5" without Spinner

Recommended CG: 5" to 5.25" from the LE at the root of the wing

Excellent hardware package with painted spinner, painted control horns, adjustable turnbuckles, etc. Sturdy carbon fiber landing gear. Top notch!



First up I'll be epoxying all the control surfaces.

Wings and stabs epoxied together and control horns installed. The painted black horns that Redwing provided look great on the black covering.

I tape off a small square around the control horn, and then peel back when the epoxy is mostly set. This leaves a clean and finished look

Don't forget to scuff all the horns, and also cut a little off the aileron horns, otherwise they'll poke through the other side. The rudder horns need to be trimmed also, or they won't seat full since they contact each other.

Got the rudder installed, as well as the landing gear.



I decided to use a different tail gear spring, as the included one (while perfectly fine) was a little bigger/heavier than necessary for a 30cc IMHO. I had a different one, so I used it. It and the wheel were the only pieces I swapped.

For those used to building some other popular brands, you'll note the carbon gear mount extends beyond the rudder hinge line, and isn't required to line up in order to function correctly. Also note, the tiller needs some loctite, don't forget it!

Main gear was super easy, with easy access to the locknuts from above.

Installed the beautiful wheel pants. They're made of plastic, not fiberglass. While this makes them more durable and resistant to damage, they also flex a little more, so the paint is more likely to chip. I'll probably remove them after the maiden and photo day at my grass field.



Ok, time for the servo install. Got them all done, and put some bling on too! Got the Aztech Aeromodels goodies, including the Spot-on arms all around, matching red ball links, and the Secraft Tensioners for the pull-pull setup; also did a permanent install on the Secraft removable rudder turnbuckles. I like these much better than the factory ball links with brass eyelet for the wire. These don't have any sharp edges that can wear through the wire over time. Another awesome feature is that it's really simple to keep your wires tight as they relax over time. And, last but not least, they look bad ass. I went with the red to provide some contrast to the plane.

Got all the servos installed and setup on the receiver. Test fit of the wings and installation of the stab went perfect.



Next up, clean up the extensions, mount the receiver, badger switch, and install the tank and fuel dot.

First up I mounted the Bavarian Demon Cortex Gyro, and also the Hitec Optima 9 receiver. Plenty of space behind the wing tube to install the gear.

I also installed the Fromeco Badger switch on the side of the plane. Had to make a small balsa plate for it to mount on, but it was easy and looks / works great. I also installed the OPTO kill and led

Plumbed the WrongWayRc fuel tank, and used a cool matching red Spot-On RC magnetic fuel dot. Had to add a small balsa plate on the bottom of the fuse to hold the vent line where it exits.



All that's left: Install some Xion wing bolts from RedwingRC, install a spanking new DA35, and of course, the throttle servo.
