I currently fly the Embraer 190. When I was 17 I wanted to join the Navy like my dad and grandfather, but I did not have 20/20 vision and that was game over. There is a color blind waiver if you can differentiate the color light signals from the tower. The controller will have to get his/her manual out to even know how to use the silly thing. That is for a class 3 medical. I am not sure on the higher levels.
How far are you from Vancouver, WA? My sister runs a flight school there. She is also a local IAC rep.

Sorry, I should have posted twice. I was referring to Mike's comment on learning to fly as he lives in Oregon.
My sister was training to compete for IAC in high school in a Christen Eagle. She has not really done a whole lot since she had kids. She wants to build a Pitts Model 12 someday.

I know her flight school does not have anything aerobatic. Next time I talk to her I will see what contacts she has in the area. I know there are some warbirds on the field that she knows the owners of as my dad got a T-6 Texan ride. To my unnaclimated stomach, a super decathalon is just as fun as a Extra would be. One must build up a G tolerance for full scale aerobatics. Getting a full aerobatics course is still on my bucket list and there are actually 2 really good ones around here, one of which rents a Extra 300.
One must be careful. Full scale flying is a lot of fun, and makes what we do seem like chump change. I figured out that for all the money I spend on my fleet of RC planes and the travelling I do is just about to equal to what owning a single engine Cessna or Piper would be for a year with a hangar. Everything in giant scale RC seem like it is $100, everything is full scale starts at $1000!

I know getting my private pilot license 11 years ago cost me nearly $6000.... Full scale flying ain't cheap... BUT it's so worth it if you can make the money part work.
My aerobatics flying in military pilot training was completely amazing, and I'd say move flying in that Extra up a notch or two on your bucket list, you won't regret if!
