If this is the wrong thread, please direct me to the right one.

IMAC - after flying 3D for a while, and reading the IMAC discussions here and elsewhere, thought I would try to get a little more disciplined in my flying by
doing some IMAC practice. No one nearby to ask for advice directly.

My specific question is related to maintaining precise and consistent lines of flight

I am getting prgressivly better at flying straight lines, at constant altitude and speed .

What I can't seem to do it to control consistently the distance of the flight line to me and the viewers. (i.e. line is parallel but I can't control "near vs far" very well)
This seems to all be depth perception, nothing I can use as a visual reference.

Any advice?

Am I worrying about something that is not a major issue for Basic and Sportsman?

Thanks in advance for guidance and enlightenment

Alan

Alan, great! Your question is a good one and although my recent run in with a light pole isn't an indicator of depth perception prowess let me offer this:p

Your trying to keep a base line. Both altitude and your reference line. Visualize a box from above drawn on the ground. Extend that up to make a cube. That's your flight box. You aren't "judged" on that box but its a great tool to improve "airspace management" which you are judged on. That's basically where you put the maneuvers aka "placement". Divide your "box" in thirds, end middle end.
The other part is possibly a wind correction issue or the way you are standing to reference your line. Stand facing the middle of your box and move your head rather than pivoting. Your shoulders are your reference. That should start you and we can continue on the IMAC thread.
See you there.

Thanks for the advice.

I will move to the IMAC thread.

I am sympathetic to the "light pole" incident - I inadvertantly performed a sharks tooth to tree top landing recently - rebuilding a fuse that was accordioned.

Great day at Toledo show with Enterprise ! Nice putting faces to: Dan S (dskuro95), Gonzo, Mike (hopper). Meeting and talking with Dave and gang at DA, AJ and his crew, Alex, Tim and John from Redwing, Joe and Jim Smith, Seth at Horizon. Some others too. Had questions answered, bought some stuff and learned a little. Will post some pics and I'm sure Matt will post info and pics too.

I just got done flying two 15minute flights on a 104" slick and two on a 100cc PAU Edge... Both powered with a DA 120. Building my 50cc EF Extra and all I can say I want a 100cc EF Extra to go with it now. DA 120 is a beast.
