I did some flying too!! Got about 3flights in with the 71" slick, one with the foamy, and had the beast owner come out and fly it. I have a lot of respect for him. Use to fly RC models in the 60's with the old Kraft radios with just a push button... Must have been a really cool thing back in the day... But holy smokes - look at it now!!!! What an awesome sport!

The 73" laser is basically done. Going to post pictures soon of the cowl baffling and vents. Need to do my ground run, and an extensive preflight. What octane gas are you people using? I'm just using 87 octane but debating whether to start using 90.... Using STHL ultra oil because it's readily available here. I know that's a touchy subject. But any thoughts on the octane? Thanks

What are you guys using for a video editor? I'm looking for a free option for taking and editing videos from my phone and camera.

Yes it does STOL very well... Ok so I've used both 87 and 91 octane fuel and both work fine for me, that being said, I do worry about the ethanol in the fuel that generally comes with 87 octane. Ethanol is known to absorb moisture and debris associated with it. I try to make sure the last gallon or so of the season is with non ethanol 91 octane. That stihl oil is great! I use a petroleum base oil for the first gallon of break in fuel...

In Alaska, most all gas is ethanol free which makes it easy. I think I started using 91, but switched to 87. It made it easier to fill up my 1 gal tank then top off my truck. But now I'm the proud owner of three gasoline engines, I may just buy a 2gal jug and keep the 1 gal a petroleum based for breakin in engines.

Ive run ethenol in every one of my gas planes and never had an issue. The only thing I noticed was the fuel lines get hard and brittle after about 2 seasons.

The higher quality 2 stroke oils should have additives that will kill off a lot of the Ethanol. My 107" Yak has fuel line that's years old and is still like the day it was put in it.

I've created a monster. AH! here we go... ethanol may not be the issue, it's the bi-product... water. bwa ha ha ha. I always thought tygon fuel lines should be replaced every two seasons anyhow. ANYWAYS are you guys running 87, 91 or????? just want to know if you noticed any difference from the two from personal experience or maybe what you've been told first hand.

No monster here!! I think I saw someone say the moisture thing before lol Anyway I have not noticed much of a difference between the two AKNick. No pre-ignition knock that I can tell, that would be what I would worry about with the 87 octane. I have had one of my engines apart after running lower octane and I saw no evidence of damage from pre-ignition knock either..

I run 87 pump gas. That is all that has ever been in my motors and they start easy and run great.

I mix it in 2 gallon batches with Promix from Lowe's.

I use clear 91 with stihl ultra. Never had a problem and love the performance. Ok so can I measure the performance... Maybe if I took the time to do it but maybe it's all in my head. Lol not sure but it's what I like and what's worked for me.

Thanks for the input. I'm thinking about changing back to 91 and using a 2gal jug instead of my 1gal baby. Ok so without too much controversy what are you guys using for oil/fuel ratio? I've been doing 32:1 but I hear a lot of folks using 40:1? I get a little (tiny bit) oily residue coming out my exhaust currently. I like the 32:1 for break in but once the ring is seated maybe a 40:1 would be more efficient? Thanks.
