I spoke with Bob Brown two weeks ago, he had just returned form Washington and he shook his head and said the FAA was basically turning their back on all the work the AMA had done with them. The FAA could really care less about the AMA turns out.

As per my earlier post about AMA and henchmen...It is not the AMA I am calling out. It seems a strong arm tactic has been employed to justify revenue. I would love to listen to Obamas FAA briefing on this. If they could figure out how to pump sunshine then you can bet your "you know what" it is going to have a tax on it. And how else are they going to account for how much potential revenue will be gained. Yep you guessed it. Mine is 426851. Ways and means committee only had to have one vote on this one..Obamas.

As modelers flying at clubs, events, etc we're not subject to the regulations being fought over in court and on the news unless we do something really stupid and create a hazard to other aircraft.

The courts decided that our models are "aircraft" just like all the other aircraft flying with people in them. This is important more for legal reasons than anything else.....

IF YOU OPERATE A MODEL IN A WAY THAT IS DANGEROUS AND IN A WAY THAT PUTS OTHER AIRCRAFT AT RISK, THE FAA CAN NOW FINE YOU LIKE ANY OTHER FULL SCALE AIRCRAFT OPERATOR.

The FAA is not coming to take anyone's airplanes away, they have only gained the power to fine you if you're reckless with them. In this case "reckless" means you're creating a hazard to other aircraft, people, or things. Reckless drivers can be given tickets, now reckless unmanned aircraft operators can be fined.

I fly full scale for a living, I have been flying RC multi-rotor helicopters for hire for the last four years, and I've been flying U/C and RC models since I was about 8 so this has all been very hard to watch as I understand the needs of manned aircraft to be safe but I also don't like watching all of our RC brothers and sisters being hassled.

RC has evolved to the point that it isn't just happening at flying clubs anymore, it's everywhere! Parks, schoolyards, city streets, over large crowds of people, very close to commercial buildings....there are a lot of people that were never taught the safe habits promoted by the AMA and they're out there making the rest of us look bad!

I sincerely believe the AMA is doing a great job to represent us and to protect our interests. Before this episode I never thought the AMA did anything but make a bad magazine and collect dues. I've been impressed by their efforts to fight the FAA on this and it's in everyone's best interest to join the AMA.

Keep flying your planes, you're safe despite the scary graphic in the first post. Give way to small planes and helicopters that might fly over your RC field and don't buzz the schoolbus full of kids that might drive by. :)

Could this be considered child endangerment??? Just as silly for making a major safety issue over model planes. When is some one going to see that money is the end cause. Your Money. He wants it. He will get it.

guys, the president has nothing to do with this, the FAA is an all powerful government agency, they listen to and trust nobody but themselves.

they are difficult to deal with. just ask Sen. Inhofe from Texas. He's a pilot and not a very good one with two crashes to his name. The FAA tried to investigate him and he was so mishandled by the FAA that he went back to Congress and wrote a law called The Pilots' Bill of Rights changing how the FAA needs to work with pilots that they're investigating..

The President isn't behind this, it isn't politics, it's a gov't agency that has a lot of power and nobody is really willing to change their mission to protect our skies.

From Wikipedia;
Misconduct while piloting an aircraft in 2010
Trained by the US Navy, Inhofe is one of the few members of Congress who is licensed as a commercial pilot. In 1994, when he first ran for the U.S. Senate, he used his plane as a daily campaign vehicle to crisscross Oklahoma and visit almost every town in the state.[80] He has been influential in Senate and Congressional debates involving aircraft regulation.[81]

On October 21, 2010, at the age of 75, Inhofe landed his Cessna on a closed runway at a south Texas airport, scattering construction workers who ran for their lives. In a recorded telephone call, the men's supervisor told the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that Inhofe "scared the crap out of" the workers, adding that the Cessna "damn near hit" a truck. And the airport manager, also speaking to the FAA in a recorded telephone call, opined: "I've got over 50 years flying, three tours of Vietnam, and I can assure you I have never seen such a reckless disregard for human life in my life. Something needs to be done. This guy is famous for these violations."[82]

In response to the incident, Inhofe stated that he "did nothing wrong", and accused the FAA of "agency overreach" and causing a "feeling of desperation" in him. He agreed to take a remedial training program, and the FAA agreed not to pursue legal action against him if he took the program. In July 2011, Inhofe introduced a bill to create a "Pilot's Bill of Rights" which he said would increase fairness in FAA enforcement actions.[83] The bill was passed in 2012.[84]

I am not trying to be negative at all. The president is well aware of this. He will dismiss any military or civil official if he feels threatened in any way. FAA used to be a decent organization. Now it is corruption fighting corruption. And the one's getting a black eye over it is people who just want to actually enjoy themselves with something that has touched their hearts since youth.
