Two days in a row for flying for me. Yesterday it was the new 330. Today...Ah well, you know? I just had to join in on the festivities of the monthly fun fly at the field. What did I take? Weeeeelllll….. A little 10cc gaserized trainer was the call. I had not flown my RCGF 10cc trainer since winter of last year. Almost two years. I figured it was time. I had to do some modifications as the on board rx./ign. Lipo died. I had been running a regulator to bring the voltage down to a usable voltage for the servos and ignition. But I figured if the battery is dead, lets do away with all that spaghetti mess and start fresh. I kept the 4.8 NiHd pack for the nav lights. But changed out the 7.4 Lipo and regulator for a 6.6 Life battery. Rewired the entire plane and it looks so much cleaner inside now. Took her out this morning and put on a couple of flights before the fun began and wow... What a great performing little trainer. No issues with wiring and the little 10cc ran pretty well. Considering it is still basically new and not even close to being broke in. There was one....minor, well ok.... HUGE setback though. I offered to help a fellow flyer with his "glow" (shudder) plane. He started it and I picked it up and took it to the runway for him. I am not even joking...It nearly slipped out of my slimy grippers.
Yeah, I think it is time I get another glow powered plane. "NOT"!!
I'd rather be face punched! LOL. Still, we all had a really "REALLY" great time. One of the gents I like to pal with is just and all around good guy. He has progressed so much in the last couple of years. He keeps asking me, "Rob, you think I can handle something like a more aerobatic plane?" I keep telling him he is more than capable. So what did he bring today? Now mind you, the wind was literally not like yesterday. We had 17 gusting to 26 mph winds. Oh it was warm and all. Just brutally windy. We flew the fun fly anyway. Ever see a harrier landing with a trainer? Lots of rudder and stick baby. We were trying to hit one of 7 boxes chocked on the runway. Each one gave a poker card. From 10, J, Q, K and Ace. You can imagine the challenge...and the all out fun. Anyway, my pal brought a EF Bushmaster like plane. Huge soft wheels and light as a feather. Totally hilarious to see him go out to retrieve his plane after landing. Had to keep the motor running fast enough to keep it from being blown backwards. Needless to say the tail was up in flight condition and pretty much motionless on the runway. Then he would chase it...run it up....chase it....run it up....gosh...what a hoot. But talk about pin point landings. LOL.
