I can't find or think of a good remedy for the switches I guess I'll keep them.
But being as a large portion of weight removed came from the front, the switches and Smart Fly will be moved from the rear (see pic) to the front.
Still want me posting here? lol

Don't know if you are using a TechAero IBEC or not, that would eliminate the ignition switch and battery.

No TechAero on this one, everything else I use them. This one has the Smart Fly system; it works well but does require the extra battery.
Edit to note; I went and looked it over and I have no reason for not using TechAero's other than just wanting to try SmartFly's. And as it stands I don't think I want to eliminate the battery (they sit in the engine box) for sake of having to add weight to the nose.

I assume you are talking about the Smart Fly optical system, used two over the years and they work great. I take my batteries out to charge them even since a fellow flyers van caught fire in his driveway while charging the batteries inside the plane in his van. I ended up with a transmitter out of the deal, the radio had a smoke damaged case but worked fine, he gave it to me, I had a new case and now I use it in the shop for setting servos.

Yes, on the optical system, works great but prefer the Tech Aero, much simpler. According to the Competition 12 manual I can plug the batteries directly into it, even has charge ports. I think I will test it out on the bench (for my comfort with it) and see if I can eliminate the switches that way.

The fuel line came yesterday, the tank came today, just need the batteries. This morning, I used a LiFe battery to test the Comp12, everything worked as advertised. And I realized I have a toggle on/off on the ignition power so those three big switches are out. Took a little time and installed the tank and Comp 12 this evening, tomorrow will be fuel line and servo lines.

Don't understand your comment about toggling the switch. I my last setup, the ignition power came off the balance lead on one of the flight packs through a 5 volt BEC to the optical switch near the engine. No switch.

The power to the Optical cut off goes through an external toggle switch.

Well I needed something to do so I have a Funtans 125 for many years and really like the plane. The only thing I regret doing is installing a Gp38 into the plane. Just to much power not even fun to fly except if you want to do silly stuff.
so it is being stripped and XPWR 22 electric motor will be installed with 80 Amp ESC. Will run of a 6S-5000mAh battery hopefully this will a lot more enjoyable to fly.
I need to complain sorry it is not even winter yet and it has been snowing for the past 2 weeks and temperatures is hovering around 15F that is cold, and I am already tired of shovelling.
pictures to follow soon Of the plane rebuild.

Do you need the switch because the batteries remain in the plane?
Yes, they are buried in the nose. The two batteries for the Rx are terminated by the remote Pin Flag shutting the Comp 12 off. The ignition has to have a separate power source, hence the third battery, and even though the Comp 12 shuts the Ignition off the ignition unit still draws some power. Back when I was doing events most required an external shut off, the Pin Flag for the Rx and the toggle for the ignition met those requirements. For now, if it was not for needing the weight of the third battery I would have put a Tech Aero in it and been done.
