    Welcome!

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I have a RedWing 30cc Extra 330 sitting on my work bench for 4 years. I started working on it and something always came first, work, house, you know on and on and on. So for the last three weeks I've focused on it and last night everything was done except to CG the plane. Last night I fired up my computer and searched online to determine where to CG the plane. (Note to self, I should have done this first.) I learned I purchased the first production run of the plane which is inherently TAIL HEAVY. I installed a DLE 30cc to keep the model as light as possible only to find out after the fact that I should have installed a DLE 35 to offset the tail heavy model. I moved two 3600 mah batteries into the motor box and it's still tail heavy. I have a TruTurn heavy spinner, so I replaced the stock carbon fiber spinner and it's still tail heavy. I have DLE 35, however, since the RedWing is no longer in business I would have to modify the cowl again and we know how that will look. I can use dowels to repair the motor box and fender washers to spread the load and install a DLE 35. I haven't used weights for years to balance a plane but I decided I've spent enough time on this plane and it's time to move on.

So to fill everyone in I will be away from building for a while. My wife and I tried for many years to have kids on our own and after my wife has had to endure way to many injections for all the infertility meds she had to be on we gave up on that path and moved on the the prospect of adoption. Yesterday was 32 months of being active and approved to adopt. Yes 32 months on top of taking 6 months to get all the paper done for it to happen and on top of 3 years of us trying on our own including fertility treatments. Well Friday we got to call that there was a little girl waiting for us. I can’t describe the excitement we have Brenco through in the last 48 hrs and getting to meet her yesterday. Until we get the go ahead from the agency we aren’t able to share pictures on any type of social platform but as soon as we are able I will post a picture.
So to sum it all up and answer the question in the title of this thread. We are building a family in the workshop I will refer to as life.
Congratulations Chris! Fantastic news! What a wonderful gift. From everything I have seen, she is a lucky girl to have you as a parent. Congratulations!!!!

Yeah I know. A buddy said it in an email that I need to build her a trainer to learn to fly on. Does a 55cc 3D profile count as a trainer?????? LOL
Don’t get your hopes up to high. I had two girls both loved the simulator and got really good at it built two planes form them. They came out to the field a couple of times both could take of and land within a 5 or 6 flights and that was the end of it they both said that it was Boring. You never know with kids. I now have a grandson 1 year old and I am hoping he takes a liking To it time will telll.

Just get a little creative and make you some battery trays that fit over or on the sides of the engine. I had to do it with my 90" Extra 330 and a buddy's 74" Demonstrator. Works out great. Both planes have two 3000mah lipo Rx packs up front. I pulled out almost 8oz of dead weight from the Demonstrator and 9oz from the Extra.

Congrats Chris :brian-banana:. I did not realize it has been that long of a wait! Building a Family takes skill too and I'm positive she will turn out more beautiful than any of your planes. Very Happy for you and the Mrs. :).

Yes it’s been a long wait but worth it in the end. She is a blessing to us and we will be forever greatful to the birth parents who chose us to take care of this little bundle of joy.
