Yup. Getting ready to relocate my shop to the other side of my basement so I wanted to get a few other things done for that move. I have also drawn up a nice storage unit in CAD that I will be building. It will hang on the wall and hold those metal drawer units I posted a week or so ago, all my plastic storage bins, all the saw blades for my various saws, sandpaper, and my palm sanders. I'm doing this in an effort to condense things a bit as I will be loosing a little space moving to this other portion of the basement. don't want to move to less space but the ultimate goal my wife and I have for the basement would prevent me from being able to get large wood stock into my shop so it will have to do until I can build a detached building to be my shop.

Helped a friend a few years back build a shop 20 by 30 feet beautiful shop walls and roof insulated The works and a big furnace as well. Also built a car hoist in it and all kinds of extras and comfort things. But the only thing we did not do insulate the concrete floor and that made the hole shop useless. The floor was always cold and with in no time your feet were frozen no mater what. So 2 years back he had the hole floor removed and then insulated ground properly and then poured in a new floor. What a difference the shop to day is great and we spend many hours in their during the winters.

Yeah proper insulation under it and when I do it I will be running all the water lines in it to make it a heated floor. My old boss had the electric radiant floor heat in a few rooms of his house. Kept his house warmer and used less electricity to run it. Being radiant heat it actually heats up objects in the house versus just heating the air like a heat pump does.

What book or reference are you using to get started in 3D cad. I know you have AutoCAD, so do I but to get the first steps is the hard part.

Be careful with radiant heating as said it warms the surface and not the air. In the steel industry as you know the buildings are so large that they are impossible to heat so therefore we use radiant heaters for the people at their workstations. But when you have delicate machinery or precision machinery making a product radiant heat can do some strange things to machinery when it is only heated from one side. We took some extraordinary precautions to prevent uneven heating to equipment.

I just looked at a couple of youtube videos and really just started playing around with it. I think I'm gonna download the student version of Inventor as I here its easier.
I wont have any special machinery in my shop. Most I may have one day is a manual mill and lathe and hopefully at some point pick up a CNC router. Other than that it will be all your normal wood working power tools.

My shop has floor heat in it, and I really like it. It is very comfortable to work in. It can be 0 degrees out, and I can work in 65-70 degrees inside. I highly recommend it.
I just got a major upgrade to my shop the other day. Something I have been wanting and needing for my business for some time now. I bit the bullet and bought a CNC Router. Although the price really hurts, it is so cool how quick and accurate they are. I have been able to do a couple small jobs with it. Still have a lot to learn, but it hasn't been as hard as I first thought it would be. The first pic is my router, and the other two are a sample sign that I cut, and a small cabinet nest I cut getting my software all set up. That is what I have been doing in my shop lately. No airplane stuff because I am not building anything this winter, just going to fly what I have.
