Yes - Art Scholl modified the chipmunk to create what we all know and love as the "Super Chipmunk" and then modified it further to make the gear aft retractable. There is a really cool video on him talking about it.... I'll have to find it

FOUND IT! Start at the 16min mark:
Thanks for that I have been thinking of building one with retractable gear.
I like a Chipmunk but with the gear in the wing makes handling the wing a pain. So with retractable gear it’s easy to deal with and slide into a wing bags. Just have to thick of something for the fuselage so that it does not roll around in the car.

Really enjoyed the Art Scholl video! Thanks @AKNick!
Was looking through something a few weeks ago and stumbled onto these.

I’m getting there. Last hurtle is hinging my very thin ailerons… I’m going to use CA hinges… I think…. Part of me wants to just bevel the bottom and let the covering be the hinge… thoughts??? TE and Aileron LE is only 1/8” thick! Big debacle for a modernized thin airfoil. I think foam core F3/5 gliders use Kevlar strips for the hinge but that sounds difficult.

I wouldn’t trust just the covering I don’t think. CA hinges or Blenderm hinge tape top and bottom.

Yea could try it and check it frequently. You could do two layers one across the top and second from the bottom. I have used Mylar drawing sheet and it worked very well.

How big is the plane? Honestly though being a glider using covering as a hinge should work just fine. I have done it on a few of my smaller 3D Profiles with success. And I would do it the opposite way though like our DLG's are done. bevel the top and let it hinge from the bottom so if you want to program in landing flaps like a DLG you will have the full range of motion. Then seal the hinge line from the top with tape like on a DLG.

Thanks for the ideas. The Ridge Runt is just a slope glider, servos are pretty quick, so If there is any torsion in the hinge line one sure the covering would just rip. Hoping to be rolling around and utilize them as flaperons. I like the idea of having the hinge line on top. Just need to figure out the best method. Maybe Mylar tape sandwiched between covering would provide some structural integrity
