Throttle response with E-Flite 60 amp Pro V2 ESC

Greetings,
I'm having difficulty getting good throttle response with the E-Flite 60 amp Pro V2 ESC. I feel there is a delay of about 700ms to 800ms. in the response from when I move the throttle to when the motor shows a change in RPM.
Most of my ESC are Castle Creation and I have had very good tractability with the motor following the throttle stick (both in my helis and 3D planes).

Is there some hidden set up value in the E-flite Pro ESC to sync speed up the throttle response? My set up is the E-Flite Yak 54 on 4 cells and an E-Flite Splendor on 6 cells (both are stock power set up). This 3/4 second delay is killing me! I keep moving the throttle with nothing happening then she comes on and I'm now fighting too much power.

I have noticed that the Heli set up that Horizon sells comes with Castle Creation ESC. I suspect it is because the delay in the E-Flite pro ESC is just unacceptable in a heli.

While the delay seems to be fine for most sport set up. I find it intolerable in any ship which I'm trying to hover.

I fear that I and Horizon have come to the same conclusion. That the E-Flite 60 amp Pro V2 ESC is not suitable for hovering.
Please let me know if you have a solution for the E-Flite 60 amp Pro V2 ESC throttle response issue other than replacing it.

All the best,
Konrad

I don't have any experience with this particular model and like you fly mostly castle creations esc's in my electrics. Anyone else have a thought or experience with it. I am a 90% gasser guy (ok I can hear the fart jokes now) so I'm not the best resource for this question.

Mike,
Thank you for the confermation that Castle Creation has some o the best ESC.

I see nothing wrong with SMOKE and mirrors! Right now I have the distinct feeling that is what is needed to fly 3D, mirrors that is. :(

All the best,
Konrad

I'm a huge fan/user of the ZTW line of ESC. Their regular voltage line seem to have the best throttle response/power output of anything I've used.

A little follow up. Through some horse trading I received a Castle Creation Edge 75 light. I can report that the CC Edge 75 light has much better throttle response. I think I set up the CC Edge 75 for a fast response, out-runner motor for timing.

I do have to caution folks not to use the 'gear channel' as the safety lock out channel with the AS635 RX . I forgot that this channel is used to switch the gain levels with the AS3X gyros.

I was in a low level hover and switched the gyro gain (ch5) only to effectively have a dead stick. Bent a prop adapter and my ego, but that was about it.

I do have 2 Gecko 85 w/programing card on order and look forward to seeing how they perform.

Thanks for your help. While I still can't hover worth a … At least I'm not in a PIO situation.

So if anyone is have throttle response issues with their E-flite/ Horizon products it might be advantageous to replace the E-Flite 60 Amp V2 ESC.

All the best,
Konrad

Now some follow up with the Zone Top Way (Ztw) Gecko 85A. I purchased 3 Gecko ESC from Altitude Hobbies along with the LCD Programing card.
I have this ESC as a replacement for the one that comes in the Splendor (http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/carbon-z-splendor-bnf-basic-with-as3x-technology-EFL10250 this has to be one of the best values in large foam beer coolers) With the new price drop to $200 you wont feel the pain of upgrading the ESC to a Gecko 85A or Edge 75 light! You can read my review of the Splendor here
http://rctruth.com/index.php?topic=1858.msg24374#new

The Gecko 85A along with the Edge 75 Lite have shown to have much better throttle response than the E-flite 60 pro V2 ESC. I can't say as I notice any real difference between the Edge 75 and Gecko 85A at least at my level of proficiency with 3D flight.

On paper the Gecko has a larger SBEC 8 amp vs the 5 amps for the Edge. The Gecko 85A is about 66% the street price of than the smaller Edge 75 lite.

The Edge 75 light is about 2/3 the weight, at a little over 50 grams, and she sports longer wires.

Now with only one flying session and testing only one set up I'd have to give the nod to Castle Creations if for no other reason that I more familiar with the products from Castle Creations and have had excellent customer service. But having had a few Geckos in my hand (both the 65A and 85A) I'd have to say the ZTW product is as good a product and maybe even a better value. I will say that Altitude Hobbies has given me great service with very fast shipping and they gave me great customer service addressing some issues I had with the order and answering some of my technical question.

I'm now going to fit the Gecko 65A in my E-flite Yak 54 and see if I notice an improvement in that airframe and set up.

All the best,
Konrad

It pains me to say this ,but my ZTW Gecko ESC's all have the loss comutation issue when running High KV outrunners. The good news is that the firmware update available from the Altitude Hobbies site does work and does address this issue.

The issue I have is that ZTW will not be shipping their ESC with this new firmware. You the end customer must get a programing box, and a Windows 7 operation system and firmware and perform the frimware upgrade yourself!

All the best,
Konrad
