Greetings again fellow Twisted fans!
Well, since the Crack Yak debuted a little over a year ago we have come a long way. We have done the revised Extra Slick for sharp, wood-like performance, the Crack Pitts for stable performance and the flair of a bipe, the Crack Yak Lite for depron floatiness at EPP prices and convenience, and the Crack Yak Mini for flying hard in smaller spaces.
However, the very first Crack Yak hit a note in this industry. What everybody wanted was an extreme EPP foamy to help you take your flying to the next level, and the Crack Yak delivered. We aren’t content to rest on our laurels at Twisted, so when Brad gave me carte blanche to design the next Twisted airplane I just had to design another model that was capable of scratching that itch that every extreme pilot has…fast roll rates, locked-in precision, and unlimited capability.
Presenting the Crack Laser!
This is a “Cracked-out” model of the full scale Laser, incorporating the same stealth styling cues and design philosophy of the Crack Yak and Crack Pitts. The Laser is one of the most recognizable and classic aerobatic designs, and makes a refreshing change from all of the Extras, Edges, and other more modern designs on the market now. Additionally, the fuselage shape, canopy placement, wing shape, and tail shape of the Laser can make for an incredibly locked-in and capable model…owners of the Extreme Flight Laser EXP can attest to this! The Crack Laser is part of the Lite series, designed for indoor use or outdoor use in light wind with 2S 300-450 mah batteries and the Twisted Lite Power Combo.
The Crack Laser was designed to take full advantage of the lower wing loading that we could achieve with the thinner construction and lighter components of the Lite series. For example, the wing planform of the Crack Yak makes for silky smooth harriers at a slightly higher wing loading. We found that on the Lite series of aircraft, the lower wing loading made for great harrier performance…so we could add a little bit of sweep to the wings for better rolling and precision without sacrificing harriers. We also added some other important improvements… the T-canalizer makes for a silky-smooth rudder response, and the SFG’s on the elevator and ailerons not only make for a crisp response, but add stiffness. Additionally, there are certain things that I like in an airplane that I wanted to incorporate into this. The Crack Yak was designed by Chris J. for his tastes, and the Crack Laser is designed by myself for mine!
The result is the absolute smoothest, most precise EPP foamy you’ve ever flown, with the absolute best rolling performance on the market. Slow rolls and rolling circles are as easy and forgiving as the Crack Pitts, and the elevator and rudder response are smooth and crisp. I have never felt more precise flying a foamy than with the Crack Laser. But when you peg the sticks this thing rolls even faster than the Crack Yak! In fact, it’s about the only thing out there that can keep up with the Crack Yak Mini. What’s most impressive though is how stable and consistent it is. It’s extremely predictable and always rolls at the same rate, and tracks on a wire as it drills along. All of this occurs at remarkably slow and predictable airspeeds. This is the best plane I’ve ever flown for fast point and rifle roll practice! Don’t let that capability scare you, though. It’s floaty and forgiving around center and is just as easy to fly as any other foamy.
The build will start tonight!
