    Welcome!

Who would be interested in an entirely new type of competition?

I like the idea of a spec class for the same reasons the do it in cars. One thing they do is hand out motors for the day so that no one has an advantage at the big competitions. Since this is not a speed contest and most 3D maneuvers are skill related and not raw power I am not sure the advantage of a spec power system. I however do like having a specified airframe so that all things are equal in the design and aerodynamics. Something like 48" edge class would be cool as this tends to be an entry level 3D ship. Doing a horizon product like the QQ Yak 54 (electric BNF one) or the Visionaire could be done as well.

I still want to work on some sort of flying to music contest. Something quick like a 90 second music clip that is judged based on how well you hit music ques and required maneuvers. Bigger planes would probably suffer in a fast beat music deal in a short time. It could be a crowd pleaser and show the creative side as no 2 routines would be the same. Maybe do a known and unknown. Freestyle is great, but picking the music for someone would take a bunch of the work out of it and make it more accessible. Plus we can all joke about how sick we are of said music peace after listening to it for the umpteenth time.

No Plane size limits
No required Plastic pilot and dash (does nothing to show a persons flying skills)
Plane does not have to be scale

Do not turn it into a IMAC freestyle because no one will show up the second year.

Allow the ground to be touched.

Lower is better

Personally agree with all of the above. Great inputs Jim.

We're working on it guys (and gals- RC Girl!). All great ideas and it is coming together. Trying to make Basic "basic" enough to bring in transitioning sport and precision pilots and still be a challenge for those not comfortable to go up to Intermediate. I also like Jim's suggestions. The "one design" is way too limiting (I get the feeling that was a little "stir" by someone we know! bicycle man!).
Register for your class/ category. Show up, pay (who said that? to cover prizes I would think). If you are fortunate enough to have a choice of "weapons" pick your best shot from the hangar and have at it. It's trending towards two short rounds right now but it's a WIP (work in progress). Liking upgrades as well as downgrades (limits on each). Limits on time of maneuvers (hovers) adjustable for class and minimum to score then a max for upgrade so someone doesn't hover all day for bonus points! Touches, drags! Hmmm interesting, probably some upgrade but not crazy (shouldn't "have" to to be competitive). Weather is turning up here so we'll be hitting the field with plenty of lipos, gas, pads, pencils, laptops, etc. Oh, planes too! I think it's going to be a very fun season.

I'm totally down with something like this.

My thoughts were it would be routine based but with 3D and high energy precision maneuvers. More like a IMAC freestyle type event with said maneuvers having to be performed within a pilots routine, time frame and judged accordingly. Style point always a plus.

Hey nice plane dth7!!;)

Just re reading the thread to make sure I stay on course! Didn't see this little comment before! Thanks you too:thumbup: I maiden-ed mine yesterday- AWESOME, going to LOVE this one for sure.

We're making headway with this great idea. Developing sequences to be tested.

Jim, after some thought and talking the "touching" isn't a prerequisite to performing a maneuver well and accurately. I think freestyle is the place for the "showmanship". We are trying to keep this a skill developing competition for the Basic and Intermediates as well as a challenge for the Advanced pilots. There is likely to be a Freestyle element. The big push here is no airframe limit (any limit would be on the large end not the small)- "Fly what you have and prepare to be judged" is a theme we seem to come back to.

How about an "IROC" class. Spec. airframe and engine. Demo it in the first event and gauge interest in it going forward. Maybe an ARF and engine manufacturer would step up and help with sponsorship. This would remove inequities in equipment and bring a lot of recognition to an airframe and engine manufacturer. Radio system the choice of the pilot.

This is a whole different competition. A good idea but not the intent here. We want it to be easier, not more specialized, to be able to compete.

This idea needs to be bounced off a manufacturer, I'd be up for it (If I had the plane and power plant!).

Never said it should be a prerequisite. No one should be forced to touch the ground. No element should require a touch.

Just
Don't disqualify someone if they touch the ground during a maneuver.

In IMAC you touch you go home a looser.

If it looks like they damaged the plane to the point its not safe to continue flying then the line boss blows his trumpet.

In IMAC the lower you fly does nothing but upset the judges, NO points for Low, is the IMAC mantra.

Don't turn this into a IMAC freestyle.

It won't be IMAC freestyle, it'll be 3D, that's why we here are so excited about it!

There is some confusion here about freestyle vs. sequences. What I am proposing is a sequence competition, but instead of flying big, fast, non-stalled, pattern-style maneuvers, contestants would fly 3D maneuvers as well as possible. I think that a freestyle portion, with judging criteria and rules that encourage flights that are fun to watch, would also be a great addition but let's not get too sidetracked.
