3D Wing tubes and why .037 is unacceptable

I would be concerned about using paint to build up the tube. The vibration from the engine would cause the pressure points on the tube to wear the paint down pretty quickly and then you are back to having a loose tube. Of course I am no expert in the area and there may be a paint that I am not aware of that would hold up better than most I have seen.

Proper Automotive Clearcoat is two part with a hardener, it hardens very hard, as long as it's cured I don't think it would be a problem.

It is worth a try but I would definitely use the two part with hardener. Even with this I would keep a close eye on it because nothing is fool proof.

I would think that .037" of paint would end up heavy. Clear coat at 2 mil per coat, you are looking at 19 layers of build up.

It would be half that, it's .037" total or .0185" per side. And it would be right on the cg

My bad. You are correct .0185" per side. that is still about 9 or 10 heavy coats.

When I have a gap with my carbon tubes,I put a thin layer of epoxy to fill the gap

I make my own tubes with epoxy and glass cloth. Smear Vasoline on the tube, light coat, one wrap of wax paper, two wraps of glass.
