Thanks now it all makes sense. Under the spark plug does that not give much higher temperatures than the head actually is.
With it connected under spark plugs what is your upper operating temperature limit on the DA

The ring terminal under the spark plug gives the "hottest" and most consistent reading. I converted all my planes to this method about 2 years ago and now it's easy to compare differences between engines and airplanes. Data logging and comparing differences can now be used as a source for tuning, beyond listening and feeling the "tune".

Using the temp sensor on the fins yields different results between different planes and is dependent on many variables, one of which is how tightly it's pushed against the cylinder or if there is an airgap.

Putting it under the spark plug removes all those variables and will scare the daylights out of the user during the first flights, since the spark plugs "do not cool" themselves, and is the hottest part of the engine.. LOL

I set the alert at 295. Typical flying yields 225-250. At 295 it is time to pull out of the hover and fly around and get it back to around 225. This is the same way I set my DA120 when I had it in the EF104. You can expect temps like this when the mercury is around 85. On nice cool days say 65 the CHT will be around 180-200 normal flying and remain cooler in a hover around 250.

Had some trouble with the servos in the 330sc so more than likely it will be fall before I can give a flight report with a big gasser and this radio. I have directed my attention back to the electrics and will have an EF 64" MXS ready to go shortly with the radio and an Aura 8 .

The Turnigy SK3 5055 is a powerfully smooth motor and turns the 15 x 7 carbon to "Beast Mode" quite nicely with out even breaking a sweat :). This project is SOOOOOO Mo Betta Than that CHEAP HK Plane:epic:.

When you changed from the fins to the spark plug what was the temperature difference. With them under the plug what is your flying temperature and your upper limit.

There was about a 20 - 30C degree temp difference between the fins, located in the back of the engine, pushed up against the 2nd fin, which and pushed up to the head, and held in place with silicone tubing vs the ring under the spark plug.

Attached is the file from todays flying session. Temp 1 and Temp 2 represent the individual cylinder head temps, and all are measured in degrees Celcius. It was a 30 Degree C today, no wind.

Engine is a CRRC 55 GFii Twin, spinning a 23x8 Xoar CF prop.

Plane is a Yak 54, 88" Wingspan 18Lbs. engine is baffled.

Installed some telemetry. Power Pack voltage is monitored. Receiver voltage is displayed as a battery Icon (always will show full due to BEC). Transmitter voltage is displayed both ways in volts and an Icon. I made a optical reflector for the rpm sensor out of a large wheel collar and punched steel cap from a old fuel tank stopper. Attaches to motor shaft with a grub screw.

I still have the wings to finish but that is easy peasy and hope Saturday morning will yield cooler temps so I can get a radio check done and some flights in. Need to order some more temp sensors so I can get the motor monitored. @Snoopy1 you had mentioned for me to tell the bad things about the radio. Way earlier I pointed out I did not like the switch locations of the two long stem switches ( hard for me to reach) and that the Aura 8 system was not compatible and that a larger capacity battery would be nice. Well the Aura is compatible. I had to reflash the firmware to its original configuration to get the Aura to work. See; I had updated it to get the multi rotor menu but it included a controller configuration for on line fpv racing which screwed things up. I think you do not like the programming lay out and that's cool. You need to post too what you like and don't like. I asked for users of this radio to post here back on page 1.

The one I keep looking at is the Jeti but the price and all new receivers is going be more than $3500 bucks so I keep looking.

I have been a long time Futaba guy but like you I have been frustrated with the way they have priced themselves.
I too have been looking at Jetti but the price point sucks.

Hopefully this will be the answer..........I will get one when it becomes available........
