Scale Plans built P-51

I like 'em "BIG"!
Well, a lot has happened since my last post. I retired, moved to the mountains of South East New Mexico, became a fire fighter and an avid golfer. But the call of RC is strong and the unfinished Mustang is a project that keeps me awake. So, with a new enthusiasm and the purchase of some more fiberglass cloth and West System epoxy, I'm back to work.

Great to see you back at it. Looking forward to each post.

Wanting to use the very best spray paint (rattle cans) that I could use, I ordered several cans of Montana Gold. Don't waste your time and money on this stuff. The plan was to use the silver as a base coat. The finish feels like sand paper. Very low pressure, which is ok for control, no runs at all, the color is good, coverage is good, but the final finish is rough as a cob. I'm trying to smooth it out with scotch brite, but not worth the effort.
Get hold of Richard Johnson at Wings West. Beautiful paint. A little pricey but we'll worth the cost. Pretty much perfect match. I did my Jtec Pitts with it and it turned out great. Had some problems with the white. But I'm thinking that issue is resolved.

Hey, Stang:
Over the last 3 weeks, I've sent them 2 messages. No response. Could they have gone by the way?

Hmm... odd! I am sure they are busy. I talked to Richard just a couple of days ago. He called me back to give me Kevin's number as I had some technical questions only he could answer. I know for a fact they have not gone by the way. Shoot me your number in a p.m., I will get it to Richard and ask him to give you a call.

You can tell by the terrible job he did on his Deception.:lol2:

Contacted Wingswestrc about the paint. They were very helpful, and even sent me a sample of their paint to try to make sure it was compatible to go over the acrylic that I had already used. Worked great. But on this Mustang, I'll be buying it in Quarts.
