Aeroscale parted ways with Kolm Engines
Kolm engines are no longer offered through Vogelsang Aeroscale due to recent changes in Kolm sales and service philosophy.

As you may or may not know by now there is new ownership at Kolm, there is a new company in place as well as new management. And new management made decisions which are not compatible with how we do service around here, how we stand behind our products.

Hence we are no longer available as a dealer and service center to Kolm and neither will our service specialist Julian Mashburn.

All warranty claims unfortunately need to be addressed directly to Kolm first, should you not receive the help you expect then be so kind and contact us and we will see how we can figure this new situation out.

We are here to help, as always, but as of now our possibilities have become limited.

Kolm did guaranteed us that we can purchase spare parts from them in the future, for which we thank them, hence we should be able to assist our original Aeroscale customers with service at least.

But they do deny all existing customers warranty through their former dealers as of now.

So have you decided to go with 3W.
I honestly dont know what to do at this point. There are so many things to consider. First, I am able to purchase the 150 Kolm with starter but worry about the 16 plus pounds it weighs. Above that is the ability to get replacement parts or service. Though it is a brand new never seen fuel engine, the notice was quite clear. No warranty. No service. The only service available would be through Kolm direct in Austria. Yeah, I'm not about to ship back and forth a $5000 engine that far. Next concern (which by the way would be present with any engine choice) would be cooling. I looked at a number of threads today on this big Mustang. Bunch of them started, few were ever finished. I think primarily due to engine cooling issues. I can afford the Kolm, but really skittish because of issues recently brought up. The 3w 110i r2cs is a beast motor. Light compared to the Kolm. 7.69 pounds vs. 16. I realize a Mustang will need some nose weight. But not sure I want to counter that extra weight by stuffing batteries all the way to the rear in the fuse. Let alone add ballast to balance. The Kolm 150 will turn a 26" 4 blade. Probably a 28 or 29" 2 blade. I already know the dub 110 will turn a 29 (2 blade) with no problem. The advantage of the Kolm 150 would be the starter and the sound. Obviously the 230 is now out of the equation. So I have to consider the only 150 in the states that I know of. The advantages of the 3w 110 are endless. Power, efficiency, less weight, easy access to parts and service. Gerhard is absolutely top notch. 3w isn't going anywhere so I would not worry so much about warranty. Price... big factor. Though I've got the 5k, the $2100 vs. $5000 is a huge difference. At present, Gerhrad is contacting Germany to get availability of the dub. He is out of stock at present. In the meantime I will contact the gent here in the states that has the starter equipped 150. I will offer him a lesser price simply because of the huge risk in service and available parts. Bottom line, if he accepts, Kolm it will be. Otherwise I'll have the "G" man get me a 110. As a side note, I've watched the 110 performance in a 52 pound Carf. Extremely impressive. I've also seen a DAL 116 inline twin power the same aircraft. Equally impressive. But that ain't gonna happen...ever! I guess what I need to do is step back from this for a while, consider my options vs. what I'm able to acquire for a reasonable price. Then make an informed and knowledgeable decision. For what it's worth, I still know where there is a nearly new dub 150 inline.

I just dont know at this point.
