Sport Bud Nosen (!!!) 1/4 Scale Citabria Build! Woo hoo!

Started up on this again, trying to get wing details done so that the halves can be joined and everything done/ready for cover.

Then on to finishing the fuselage and tail feathers. Maybe it'll get done, maybe it'll go back onto the back burner after a bit. Maybe it'll go to another builder to be finished. Not feeling the love for this one. :(

Feel the love. It will be awesome when you are done.

Spent enough time with it today that I've got a plan even if it's not such a good one!

I need to get the wing mounted to the fuselage so I can get the lift struts laid out and installed. After that I can sheet the bottom of the wing but to get to that point I've got to join the wing halves so I'll be finishing the wing with it in one piece. I clipped the wing by about 8 to 10 inches so it's about 97" total but I wanted a one piece wing so I'll be living with it like that from here on out. Tomorrow the two halves will go together and it'll be a big old PITA until the last of the cover is on and it's done. I've got a red Cub so maybe I'll make the Citabria cub yellow, it just feels right! :agree-disagree:

Wings are drying, span is 91 1/4, plans show span at just over 105". When the clamps are off I'll take more photos.

This has become one of those builds where I might just start posting pics again when the covering is on!

A similar kit is the Sig 1/4 scale Cub which has a 1/4 plywood bulkhead that goes from the center/front of the wing all of the way down through the bottom of the fuselage so it's a really solid anchor point for the wing to plug into. The Nosen kit was supposed to have a center section with aluminum tubes running through it and that was supposed to bolt in four places to heavy plywood rails along the wing saddles.

Looking at it on the plans it looked clunky and heavy, and I wanted to clip the wings so I decided to make a one piece wing and mount it like the Sig Cub does.

The problem is, the way I'm building it, it doesn't have a really strong load path for the front wing mounts that takes the loads down into the fuselage so I'm trying to improvise and it's getting ugly!

It'll be strong enough and it'll fly straight but maybe you guys should look away while I get past this point! lol

Pics to follow, typing over coffee and workshop's in the basement.

Damn I'm hungry
If your going to mount the wing like the Sig Cub then why don't add some 3/16" round steel rod bent to shape and attached to the fuse sides like the Sig Cub then. Hate it when a wing detaches in mid flight :big_yes:
