whoever it was that sold me this kit either screwed me pretty badly or it was made like crap....no, not crap, worse than crap! I'm not sure if Bud Nosen Models gave A&A a bad name or if it was A&A that ruined Bud Nosen's good reputation. There's no way to tell what the year of manufacture of my kit was but the parts are just horrible. I am going to have to make all of the plywood ribs from scratch, thankfully there are only about seven total. The ones I have are unusable.

And, it's been decided, I'm making a one piece wing and it will have zero dihedral. I want to be able to scratch build and fly an Extreme Decathlon wing on this fuselage in the future if I get the urge and so the top of the fuselage has to be open for a future change of wings.

Just cleaning the bench and getting the tools organized again before making ribs (if I have the wood on hand).

    Onward and upward.

I have heard some not so good things about A and A. There was a smaller Citabria that was supposed to be laser cut but it looked die cut on many parts and those parts also where cut in the negative (reverse die) so they were useless. Luckily it was an X-friends and not mine :ooh?:.

But your blazing along here so 7 ribs wont hold u up;)

I feel for you had my shear of kits like that the really older kits can be difficult to build and very frustrating. Just walk away for a couple of days and then go at it again that always helps me when I get fed up.

Luckily for me, I have a second kit to compare everything to. I could have picked either kit so I decided to build the one that looked more disorganized leaving the better kit to be sold later. The parts in the unbuilt kit look perfect compared to the parts I'm using. I just can't understand why someone would hack up the parts and then put them back in the box, it's almost like the parts were vandalized. Maybe someone tried to use a bandsaw to trace around the plywood parts to make duplicates but had their eyes closed?

I've had kits where there were traces of pencil lead on everything because someone used the pieces as templates to make another kit. This is so much worse than that.

So far, the firewall has had to be remade, now the plywood wing ribs, next the pieces for the elevator halves, some of the pre-shaped fuselage pieces....this is like a scratch building primer for that big Mustang if I ever decide to take it on!

Wing panels are done but haven't been glued together yet. Been trying to make some progress on the other Citabria I'm working on......a rebuild of the wings on a full scale 7ECA Citabria, a little bigger than a Cub, a little better performance than a Cub, and capable of basic acro. You can see what I've been up to here but I'm behind posting photos there too!

I'll be back at it tonight or tomorrow and will update some photos. It's coming along ok, just a bit tough to keep the two projects going at the same time and I really have to get the full scale plane done first! I've got lots of models to fly!

    stangflyer I like 'em "BIG"!

So I didn't realize you were intensely building along on this. Wow. Mostly because I had been absent for so long due to computer issues. I will be following along now Bart. Oh by the way, as for A and A verses Bud Nosen.... Hmm, odd cuz the big Stang I started years ago and never finished was just about as you describe this kit. Very "POOR" in quality. I did get it to a final sanding stage before life took over and I had to part with it. I hope this turns out good for you. I can tell you have your hands full. I am glad now that I went with the DS Stang to re-kindle the fever. Hang in there bro.

Curious, was there ever a full size clipped wing Citabria? Because if there wasn't I don't see why anyone would want to build it that way. I will probably be building this model from plans I just ordered and will most definitely build it as designed. I just won a DLE 30 at my old RC club's fun fly that I will power it with.
